The flood was local, thus animals from all over the world didn't need to be preserved.

Which doesn't work for fundamentalists, but overall does make more sense and is much more likely. Given that the mountains were submerged, to believe in a flood that could do that is to believe in a global flood, because for the waters to rise that high anywhere it would affect more than just the local area.

But the parent of anyone chihuahua looks like its young. And if we go back a thousand generations we will find the same thing. And if we go back a million generations we will find the same thing, but it is dubious that those last two would be considered wolves today.

When Genesis 6 talks about the earth being corrupt, it is talking about humans being corrupt and evil, not animals interbreeding outside their kinds.

I can't even begin to understand how someone could think that rabbits and opossums could breed and create a kangaroo.

It says, 'all flesh had corrupted their way'. That includes the animals he created. Otherwise why destroy the animals if they were not corrupted? By corrupted we have to understand they mixed with one another.
