I'm not accusing you of anything. I don't remember that you have made any comment on the Israel/Hamas situation. However, it remains a fact that our accepting and supportive policy towards Israel's actions in Gaza is driven more by Christian Zionists and their lurid Dispensationalist end-times fantasies than by American Jewry.

That I know, BCP. I also know that a few of you out there would like to see me may a solid political statement and firmly come down one way or the other, for the sake of delineating theological clarity on the terrible issues involved. The thing is, I presently 'see' the modern nation of Israel as a theological enigma, all the while being aware of various viewpoints different parties, both political and theological, advocate for and spar over. For the moment, I'll hold my political tongue about Zionist ventures and interpretive paradigms regarding its full nature in the world political stage and its ethics (or possible lack thereof).

Moreover, I don't like to attempt to do much political arm-chair quarter-backing on horrendous issues regarding Jewish people which persist in our present day.

A music reference, by way of a true crime book. I don't think you want to know the rest.

Lol. :) Fair enough. However, if the book of Revelation just happens to, in some significant way, be true, I would think most sane people would want to "know the rest."

Instead of quoting the lyrics that fed the insanity, I'll quote some that references it after the fact:

I got the revolution blues, I see bloody fountains
And ten million dune buggies comin' down the mountains
Well, I hear that Laurel Canyon is full of famous stars
But I hate them worse than lepers and I'll kill them in their cars

Reading about the "interpretation" of Revelation that lead to the events referenced in those lyrics did not want me to "know the rest" or take it seriously.

I love Neil Young---he was a childhood radio staple. But, there's a reason I'm anti-Revolutionary myself, and in all that I could ever say here on CF, it should be hyper-clear that I could never be a 'Manson fan.' The book of Revelation also isn't similar to his thought in any respect, so implying that it is without academic discernment is a little disconcerting to me when I see someone intelligent such as yourself imply there is any sort of insinuated similarity.

I didn't listen to much as a child, but I've been trying to make up for it for the last 1/3 century.

I find Manson and his cult fascinating, but I am hardly a 'fan'.

I'm not sure what my academic training is supposed to make of an apocalyptic religious text, or any text, religious or not. (I did have a lit class in college, but that was a long time ago.) As a matter of education I have a B.S. from the liberal arts college. The same degree that the CS students and pre-med students were taking. My studies beyond that put aside such fuzzy things to consider the nature of physical reality.

As for the text, I have been aware of many things derived from or inspired by it and I am just not captivated by the sort of story they tell. Manson's version doesn't seem that more wild than others I have become aware of. As such, the actual text has no interest and certainly no appeal to me.

Enjoy that. I know I do.

I kind of figured you weren't a fan. I'd be shocked if anyone said they were................................

That's impressive, but sometime in the future, maybe Jesus will become more relevant for you, without having to set any Physics aside.

If they found him in his tomb the archeology would be quite interesting. Until then he is just another ancient religious figure and physics or not I have need for them.

I didn't say I found him impressive. He was a nut job. The way people could fall for his insanity was fascinating. I have had a passing interest in cults since then.

You and me both; which is why I've had a moderate interest in neuro-science and the social sciences since I took an Intro to Neuroscience class way back in 1987 at the first university I attended.

I'm all about "understanding" the epistemic strains of thought in religions and cults..............and politics.
