Wow! A lot of negative vibes here. I don't see what all the fuss is about. I realize that people are resistive to change, but lets get this into perspective. This is just a forum, people. This is not real life, it's only a computer pen pal of sorts.This is a feature that can be turned off. It's not reflective of you personally.

I would think that some would be grateful to Erwin for all the effort he's put into this place. This isn't a man with nothing better to do, he has a very busy "real" life. I suppose he could just let the place run itself and have annoying banners and pop up ads.

Erwin, thank you for listening to the suggestions of other members, and acting on those suggestions as you see fit, after all, this is your place. Thank you for striving to make this a good place for people to come and fellowship, debate, discuss and pray together. I know you're busy and it takes a lot of time to update and maintain this site. This place is a blessing to me. I have a lot of friends here that I wouldn't have had the pleasure of knowing if it weren't for this place. I count you and CF as blessings.

There is a new CF Health Bar that appears below your Reputation jewels.

It is similar to the Health that you see with CF Pets.

Does this mean you need to "buy" food to "eat"?

No. You need your 3 meals a day, but you do this by making 3 posts per day on average. Each post you make is like your "meal" to maintain your CF Health. If you average 3 posts per day or more, your CF Health will remain 100%. If you average 1.5 posts per day, your CF Health will be 50%. If by chance you are not very active and your Health drops to 0%, don't worry, nothing will happen. Your account won't be canceled, you won't "die". This is just a fun feature.

The Health percentage is not calculated each day, but is based on your total post count divided by the total number of days you have been a member. In other words, this is a graphical representation of your posts per day (as seen in your profile already) with 3 posts per day being the standard. So if you haven't post for 99 days, and make 100 posts in 1 day, you will still average 1 post per day.

You can hover your mouse over the CF Health Bar to get more information. Essentially, the more green you have in your CF Health Bar, the better.

There is an option to hide your own Health Bar in your User CP, Options, Privacy for those who do not wish to show their Health, or you may even choose to Disable All Health Bars in Threads especially if you have a slow connection in your User CP, Options, Thread Viewing.

We had this feature about 3 years ago, and recently a member suggested it. I thought it would be fun to add it back.

Please bear in mind that this feature is meant to be FUN and is not to be taken too seriously.

I absolutely LOVE this feature. Maybe it comes from my days and days spent playing The Sims, but hey...whatever.

I think you do a terrific job, Erwin, of making this place rock. As I don't have a lot of Christian friends in my everyday life, I'm very glad to have a 'church' online where I can fellowship with people who share my faith.

Why not just show the "posts per day" in users' posts instead of this health thing? Or call it 'posts per day rate' or something.

If this is a forum where people are encouraged to make substantive posts, isn't it incredibly counterproductive to implement a feature that encourages basically 'drive-by posting'?

Why not just let Erwin run the board? If you don't like the health feature turn your off or ignore it. It says nothing about anyone's personality OR their salvation. Read Erwin's riginal post about how it is just for FUN. He has not asked you to like it. Some of us do. If you don't, ignore the feature.

is there a way to reset my posts per day count? because i found this site like a loooong time ago and posted a few times but then didn't use it for i don't know how long but now i would guess i make up to 10 posts a day but my post count is like .6 per day cause i didn't use it for so long...i think its a neat feature...

Just for the members who are unhappy about this new feature or who have a slow connection, I added an option to disable ALL health bars in ALL posts in the User CP, Options, Thread Viewing.

So you can disable this whole option from CF or you can choose to disable just your own and see other member's.

Do I not have a right to my opinion?

Every time one of my friends is over here while I'm on CF, they always want to know more about it, and I find myself having to explain feature after feature. And most people think it is too complicated and don't see what I see in CF. Heck, I'm starting not to see what I see in CF. It has so many bells and whistles that I find myself spending more time thinking about what my sig should look like, my avatar, and what I am spending my "CF Time" on is not having much to do with the point of having a forum in the first place--reading and writing posts.

This forum takes so long to load things these days, that when I am sitting at my computer and I'm logged on to CF, I have a book beside me to read so I can do something productive while forum pages are loading!

Seriously. I've gotten halfway through Contemporary Ascetics of Mount Athos this way. Sometimes it takes less time for me to load Homestar Runner cartoons than CF pages.
