Tyson ignores is the shock value

He knows how to capitalize on the shock value of saying Pluto is not a planet. Even to the level of using the publicity to sell books. Which would indicate to me that perhaps that is what he is doing now. Trying to get his books sales up and trying to put more money in his pocket. Everyone has a right to make a living I suppose. I have his Astrophysics for people in a hurry book. It is actually pretty interesting, at least what I have read of it. He talks about things like: "Without the billion-and-one to a billion imbalance between matter and antimatter the universe would have self-annihilated". He does know how to have a impact and make things interesting.

Not the same emotional effect. That is not the way a person of science would look at it.

Unless his beloved "one" is affected by it perhaps. No death is really impersonal.

There is always a price to pay for fame. That is not something I would want but I understand how people enjoy the attention & positive affirmation that they get.

He is a leading astrophysicist; an exceedingly intelligent man. Perhaps the tweet was ill-advised; but I think he has an important point. He does not look at emotion. As a scientist, he has to deal ONLY in hard numbers.

In the past 48hrs, the USA horrifically lost 34 people to mass shootings.

On average, across any 48hrs, we also lose…

500 to Medical errors
300 to the Flu
250 to Suicide
200 to Car Accidents
40 to Homicide via Handgun

Often our emotions respond more to spectacle than to data.​

They're all extremely-sad results of Adam and Eve's fall in rebellion.
