  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Name a doctrine that you used to believe in but dont anymore.

I gave up on the 'Complementarian' marriage model (the husband is the 'head'/leader of the wife and the wife must submit in all things to her 'lord') ;)

lol. Whatever floats your boat ;)

It's been floatin' just fine. And to be honest, if my wife ever started calling me 'lord', that'd just be weird...

LMK if you need that interpreted.
:holy:

Interpretation of tongues on CF is against forum rules. :p

No, they have a word for folks who like to be called "master" don't they?

Like I'm a "rule follower" lol.

Back to OP.
Another doctrine I used to believe was that you had to rest on Sunday.
In fact, I was downright adamant about it.

I think by now the forum is clear on your stance in that regard.
Hey, ya gotta have tenacity if you're going to finish this thing.
Christianity isn't for lightweights.

Mine would be that jesus is micheal the archangel and that hell doesnt exist.

Name one that you have thought was biblical but found out it was heretical?

The rapture.

A literal millennium.

Believer's only baptism (anti-infant baptism).

Free will, choice-based salvation.

Baptism is an outward sign of an inward faith, not a regenerative act of God.

The communion elements are only symbols of Christ's body and blood, his body and blood themselves.

Catholics aren't really Christians.

Shoulda bought a Honda but I bought a Kia. (Say that as quickly as you can)

I'm sure I've heard something very much like that in a Pentecostal prayer meeting - but alas, I did not have the transcript so couldn't interpret it ;)

Don't give up! You know the saying: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. ;)

Let me encourage you with the words of Paul. Galatians 6:9

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

And if she doesn't bow down quickly enough perhaps he should give her a good spanking. It could be that his ego doesn't require her to make it all about him.

Resurrected thread?

But it sounded interesting. Though could be divisive.

At any rate - OSAS as it was originally explained to me was the first thing to fall.

I was told you repeat these magic words, and that's it - you're going to heaven no matter what.

No need for repentance even? No need to actually follow Christ? You have God over a barrel, and you now have your ticket to force your way into heaven, no matter what else you may ever do or think or how you act, and there's nothing God or anyone else can do about it.

Never did set exactly well with me ...

(And with all due respect, I do know that not everyone who believes in eternal security sees it that way - but that is how it was explained to me. They did me a favor really - it was so blatantly against Scripture that I realized I had to measure everything carefully.)

Sounds like you're mistaking or comingling OSAS with easy believism...
These are a mile apart and should not be confounded.

Well, truly people do muddy up the terms a bit, and in the case of those, I have not taken the time to exactly sort it out.

That's why I tried to be careful to mention at the bottom that I was aware that "eternal security" did not equate necessarily (or even usually) with what I'd been taught, and to reject specifically the way I'd been taught it.

I try not to particularly insult anyone's beliefs. I find that many times there is kind of a "both" truth when things that seem to be opposite but both find support in Scripture - I think both can sometimes be true, and I don't want to insult anyone who holds only one or the other.

But then there are times (such as the case I mentioned above) where it is just patently false to me on every count.

We all do have our own paths. I've been in many different churches, believed and been taught a number of things, went on to reject some, and it's a process for me. I think that's true for many people (the part about it being a process). :)
