Kawthari has written that a husband may hit his wife if she is “slanderous or violates Islamic rulings,” as long as it is a last resort and “a light blow that leaves no mark.” In addition, he has declared that women should not travel more than 48 miles without their husband or a guardian, may not refuse their husbands’ demands for sex, and should be stoned to death if they commit adultery.

Kawthari’s other fatwas and lectures are similarly extreme. He advocates chopping off thieves’ hands, and warns Muslims against offering the Islamic greeting to Jews and Christians, citing religious texts that command: “Do not commence by greeting the Christians and Jews with Salam. If you meet one of them on a pathway, force them to walk on the side.”

And frankly, whiteness, too, is something of a construct. Europeans, as a group of peoples, do not all look the same. Some are very light skinned, others olive. Some North Africans have red hair and green eyes. Some Central Asian Turkic peoples are blonde and blue eyed, and some Indians have grey eyes and brown hair.

If I'm 1/4 middle Eastern, am I white? If I learn tomorrow that my great-great grandmother was African-American, does that make me White? My husband is technically of the "Caucasoid" peoples based on the old race charts, but he's brown, and our features are totally different. It's a weird way of looking at people.

I agree 100% that differences obviously exist between people groups. But "whiteness" seems kind of elastic, too.

I think liberals in the United States of America are just hopelessly, weirdly guilt-stricken in bizarre and useless ways. That do nothing to truly help anyone, but, in fact, exasperate already tense situations and go too far.

My favorite teaching was on the pages just prior to those...

Which is why I always find it interesting to see people argue that there's no problem with rape and sexual assault in some of these migrant Muslim communities in Europe. If they've been taught that kind of garbage their entire lives...why wouldn't there be a problem with rape and sexual assault in these communities?

Some people are so afraid of appearing racist they turn a blind eye to reality.
