I have been a fan of the New American Standard Bible since about 1974. It has consistently received high marks for accuracy on its adherence to the Nestle-Aland (N-A) Greek text. I also like the New King James, but that is based on a different manuscript family - Textus Receptus. So there are differences when comparing them.

As far as Messianic versions go - I like the Hebrew Names Version (HNV) of the World English Bible, (WEB) which is an update of the American Standard Version (ASV). It also has high marks for accuracy.

Another one that has received high marks for N-A accuracy is the new Tree of Life Version (TLV). It actually scores slightly higher than the NASB.

With prayerful reading of the Word, God can make it alive in the heart, speaking words of wisdom, even in any current translations, there He works to convert, convict, and transform the soul.
Absolutely, however, there are some translations which take liberties at translating certain words (particularly in the OT), specifically in relation to the Messiah. I wish to avoid these, where possible.

Are you thinking that the translators had an agenda?

Saying they have an "agenda" I think would qualify for some, but would be too devious for others. I think more probably they started with the conclusion of Jesus as Messiah and then when coming across words that could be translated in a couple ways decided to use the one that helped prove the messianic use. Probably the most famous or controversial being Isaiah 7:14 being translated as "virgin" or "young woman".

"almah", which can be translated "virgin" or "young woman"; but not being able to read Hebrew I have to rely on other's interpretations....I would be happy to have yours if you care to weigh in and can read Hebrew.

As you are questioning this, it will be a good opportunity for you to look it up using e-sword, and see whether the Tanach is correct in relating it to Isaiah or Ahaz, and the birth by a young wife, of a child whose name will be Immanuel - God is with us (Footnotes), or that it can relate to Yeshua several centuries in the future. :)

No problem - this was the very point I was making about the need to find connections and cross references :)

It doesn't give any information as to who is researching / writing this version. It is important to know the academic calibre of the real workers, not just a few back office names. I would not donate, or buy, until I know that information. :)

I am not claiming this Bible is a fraud, but there have been people in the past who ask for money to fund free bibles for all who donate, but then neither the free book, nor the money appears. Buyer beware is a good rule.

Did you read all of the associated material? " An international editorial team based in Jerusalem... They will be using the Dead Sea Scrolls, Allepo Codex, and the Leningrad Codex.

Beyond that, they are going to be sold for production cost so as I see it, not a big deal.....

I would like to see names and qualifications of the people working on this - each one of them. Doctorates are as cheap as chips nowadays, so just having 'Dr' as prefix or a 'PhD' as a suffix to your name does not make you a specialist in all the disciplines needed in a work of this magnitude. The location is irrelevant. In fact if the Jerusalem location is deemed to be a major selling point I would walk from it!

I personally do not care. Educational Pedigree is less important to me than accuracy.

Errrm, both go together. To separate them out is a short cut to eisegesis instead of exegesis! :)

All translators have an agenda, even if they think they do not.

Just as we have when we read it. No one can be entirely objective about anything. :)
