One event that stood out at me in the OT was when circumcision was actually used as a "weapon" in Genesis 34 to incapacitate the enemy....
Genesis 34:
22 “Only on this
condition will the men consent to dwell with us, to be one people:
if every male among us is circumcised as they
are circumcised.
24 And unto Hamor, and unto Shechem his son, hearken do all those going out of the gate of his city, and
every male is circumcised, all those going out of the gate of his city.
25 And it cometh to pass, on the third day,
in their being pained, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, take each his sword, and come in against the city confidently, and slay every male;
And they killed Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah from Shechem’s house, and went out.
26 and Hamor, and Shechem his son, they have slain by the mouth of the sword, and they take Dinah out of Shechem's house, and go out.
great thread. The Lord made it clear that what men needed was "circumcision of the Heart.." not done by hands but done by the Holy Spirit. The Lord told Israel in the Book of Jeremiah that Israel in their rejection of the Lord was no different from the Gentile nations. The Lord would go on to teach the great teacher of Israel spiritual words on the need to be Born Again which was typified by needing and getting circumcision of the heart where the stone is meant to be replaced by the heart of flesh He placed wrote the Royal Law of Love. Love fulfills the Law. If you want to understand why the Law is so attractive even after the Seed to who pointed us to cease? The written Law was seen as an eye for an eye covenant. The Royal Law of Love is turn the other cheek, if they steal from you give even more than they were going to take and if forced to walk one mile walk two. Heck we want our weapons, to be preppers in some cases, and every ones favorite the old eye for an eye. So much more as well. But I thank you for the sharpening
Galatians 5:
11 Now brothers,
if I still proclaim circumcision<4061>, why still am I persecuted? In that case, the offense of the cross has been abolished. 12 I wish those upsetting you also will emasculate<609> themselves!
13 For you brothers were called to freedom, but not the freedom for an opportunity to the flesh. Rather, serve one another through love.
14 For the entire Law is fulfilled in in this one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”a 15 But if you bite and devour one another, take heed, lest you might be consumed by one another.
