Hey everyone. I am new here, and am soon to become a catechumen. I've been attending an Antiochian Orthodox parish. At first I journeyed to the church only out of curiosity. When I saw the interior with its many icons, its candles, and other art, the curiosity turned into fascination. I volunteered to help out at a festival the parish was hosting, where I had an opportunity to talk in-depth with the priest, and the rest is history. Many of my hours over the past couple of weeks have been spent studying (already read "The Faith" by Clark Carlton).

Carlton's stuff on Baptists was killer for me, as an ex-Baptist myself.

There's an ex-Baptist in my Orthodoxy class. He's a fun guy to be around.

Have you read Orthodox Dogmatic Theology by Michael Pomazansky and Seraphim Rose? I checked it out from the parish library this evening and have already started on it. It's pretty heavy material. My priest estimated I'd only understand about 1/4 of it. :o

Hello, I'm a lost soul from the RCC strongly considering conversion. I've met with a GO priest and am doing some reading now.

Welcome!
Take your time and don't rush conversion! Be sure you know what you are converting to. It's like getting married.

Welcome to TAW. Toss me some reading ideas that you get. It's hard to get to any liturgies with my schedule and the lack of a car, so it's been slow going on that end. Speaking of, Kyprian needs to email me a time that he will be able to take me, lol.

Welcome! I was kinda the same way. I was baptized Greek Orthodox, but didn't grow up in the church. It wasn't until my mid 20s that I started to attend the Orthodox Church in my area at the time on a regular basis, and it was at this time that I met my soon-to-be husband who was a Christian seeker, and we went to catechism classes together, along with my dad. It was at this time, i was just getting a glimpse at this treasure as well.

I guess I should change my status, but I'm not sure what to change it to. I'm not a catechumen yet, but I'm serious about wanting to join. I don't officially have anyone set to mentor me (except my mentor that I have had since before I even considered Orthodoxy), so I'm confused. any advice? message me :)

You can change your faith icon at any time according to CF rules, and your intent is to join the Orthodox faith - so you could make a case for changing it now.

I'd wait until you were made a catechumen, though. That's the first part of the initiation into Orthodoxy (there's a service for making someone a catechumen), and if a catechumen were to pass away they are given an Orthodox burial (e.g. they are considered a member of the church even while they are preparing for full initiation).

4. I attend a Greek church while I am in Virgina where I live for the time being. Though when I visit Tulsa where I plan to move I attend a OCA church that I absolutely love to pieces. I am twenty-one and have been interested in Orthodoxy since either 2008 or late 2007 but I didn't start attending church services until 2009. I like write stories in my spare time and I also am a bookaholic.
