He calls sinners to repentance !
Matt 9:13
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
This Call is part of His Saving His People from their sins. One of the features of How Christ saves a sinner is Calling them to repentance, which Call is not Just a call but the call effects or produces Repentance. Now this is something religionist will not understand or acknowledge, However Jesus actually Calls sinners into repentance. Remember Paul on the Damascus Road, Christ called him, this calling of Paul then produced in him a change of mind Gal 1:15
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,
Read the account in Acts 9:1-6 and see how at Paul's call by Christ, that he was given a change of mind about Christ !
The textus receptus translates Matt 9:13
Now Christ is saying, that He did not come to call the Righteous, but rather He did come to call sinners to repentance, or a change of Mind, that's what repentance is. Now the word to eis is a prep that means:
I.into, unto, to, towards, for, among
And its primary is "entrance into " as entering into a place ! Jesus calls sinners, sinners that He calls, into repentance, for He as their Saviour gives it to them at the same time Acts 5:31; 11:18
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
Understand, the giving or granting of repentance actually produces repentance, it results in repentance !
Religionists believe that Jesus merely gives all men a chance to repent, or that His call merely provides an opportunity to repent only if we would take heed and comply with the call, but that is not Christ calling or giving repentance. As their Shepherd He goes out and finds each Lost Sheep and gives it a change of mind or repentance, again lets look at Lk 15:4-7
4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.
7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
Notice the culminating result of the activity of the Shepherd, He finds the Lost sinner sheep, puts it on His shoulders, because He found His Lost sinner sheep, and Vs 7 explains that it was this success of the Shepherd finding the lost sinner sheep that it can be said " one sinner that repenteth "
By the activity of the Shepherd the sinner sheep was called into repentance. Jesus alludes to this also in Jn 10:3-4
3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
Thats the calling and giving a sinner to repentance ! The same word call in Matt 9:13 kaleō is the same exact word John uses in Jn 10:3
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
The Leading them out is the giving them repentance ! 3
