Haha :) I think there's a better chance of Halo getting released on all the consoles before they start producing Mario games on anything other than Nintendo.

I'm also interested in the new Mario Kart. If I'm getting a Gamecube for Christmas, I may be purchasing it soon thereafter.

I heard mixed reviews of the GCN Mario Kart. The game mechanics have been changed a bit. There is no jumping so you go right to a slide.

There are now two characters per kart. One handles the weapons and the other does the driving. There are also multiple carts and the characters that the carts belong to don't have to drive the carts. The characters only affect what powerups are uses and you can switch between characters for different special power ups.

The courses are shorter than Mario Kart 64's courses, but have more obstacles (from what I heard). There are only 16 grand prix tracks and 5 battle mode tracks (including hidden ones)

The battle mode is supposedly lacking in some ways, but has a variety of different modes, so is probably worth checking out.

The game has the usually 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc levels. The game is supposed to be easy on 50cc, but I heard that 100cc and 150cc are very challenging, moreso than Mario Kario 64.

The only unlockables are extra carts are drivers, the special cup (with the usual rainbow road and not much walls this time), cups with all of the tracks, and a couple battle mode courses.

Some reviews say the game is excellent and others call it a disappointment. I recommend talking IGN's review of it with a grain of salt becuase it's very baised and calls the game kiddie.

A bit more realistic, I think.

Except you can't use, for example, Bowser in the Koopa Dasher. The characters may or may not affect handling also, I'm not sure.

The courses are shorter than Mario Kart 64's courses, but have more obstacles (from what I heard). There are only 16 grand prix tracks and 5 battle mode tracks (including hidden ones)
Unlikely. Rainbow Road is shorter for obvious reasons and is harder. 16 GP tracks is standard, and there are 4 battle mode tracks with 2 unlockables (plus 2 extra Battle Modes)

The battle mode is supposedly lacking in some ways, but has a variety of different modes, so is probably worth checking out.
The battle mode is actually apparently one of the best parts, with Shine Thief and Bob-omb Blast added.

The game has the usually 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc levels. The game is supposed to be easy on 50cc, but I heard that 100cc and 150cc are very challenging, moreso than Mario Kario 64.
Yeah, that's what I heard too... apparently the AI cheats less as well.

The only unlockables are extra carts are drivers, the special cup (with the usual rainbow road and not much walls this time), cups with all of the tracks, and a couple battle mode courses.
You couldn't really ask for more - more drivers, more karts, more battle mode tracks, more tracks, All Cup Tour, mirror mode. All present and correct. And they don't come quick either :)

Some reviews say the game is excellent and others call it a disappointment. I recommend talking IGN's review of it with a grain of salt becuase it's very baised and calls the game kiddie.
Ah... there's the old kiddie prejudgement again. What exactly is IGN's problem, anyway? If you can't enjoy a game because you think it's "kiddie"... you need to rethink. You could have just as much fun with MKDD, supposedly "kiddie" yet actually apparently great fun, as you can with other far more violent blood-spraying games.

Whee, a game both TA and SC players like :D

Hahahaha! I mean, um... what a stupid game... uh... why would someone want to play that? ;)

I was tempted to try to make some bad "If MKDD were an RTS" joke, but I decided not too.

Anyway, this game makes me want a Gamecube for Christmas even more.

My brother and I loved playing the original. We both got very good at it. We tended to cooperate, me allowing him to take the lead, while I kept everyone else off his back (riding shotgun, I suppose). That sound of shell hitting an enemy was SO gratifying!

It was harder to cooperate with 64, because we tended to annihilate each other by accident (it's hard to avoid each other when there's these shells orbiting your kart.) Battle mode on each game was cool! Our favorite strategy (on both) was to release a LOT of green shells all over the place. Whew! Boy we kicked each other's tails a lot. :D

I would love to play this new game with him. Alas, he's 3000 miles away, and I'll have to play alone. I could ask hubby to play, but it would be too easy to assinate him! :D (Sorry, dear.... :sorry: )

I went to Roger's on Saturday to rent the game, but they only bought one, and of course, it was rented out already. (It might be a few months at this rate... unless I get lucky.) :sigh: So, it'll be awhile before I could weigh in on this new game. :(

Ah, I used to be great at MK64... never did get much chance to play SMK, I was playing SMW and SMB back then in All Stars, etc. Battle mode was very good... I can remember hiding out, red-shell sniping on Double Decker and holding triple green shell duels on Block Fort. They were fun! Double Decker is notorious for green-shells-everywhere mayhem :D

You could still play over the Internet with Warp Pipe (tricks the Cube into thinking that it's playing on a LAN) - that is going to be very cool!

What do you think of the new 2-racer system and the special weps? I think it's a very good idea, and should add a lot of strategy to the game. Mario Kart style, that is. :D
