• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Goooood morning! Day 5 no porn, no youtube, no looking at other women, no immoral thoughts! Lets go! Maybe this has been shared here before but this video is AMAZING and I wish I would have watched it long long ago!!

If you're feeling guilty: Pray this
Create a clean heart for me, God,
and put a new-resolved spirit within me.
11 Do not throw me out from your presence
and do not take your holy spirit from me.

I skipped a few days! Day 10 today! The wounds of guilt are still fresh, but over time with Gods help I know I will eventually be able to remove it from my heart! Peace for now! Keep going strong!

Please hold me accountable. Jerking is my vice. While I have always stayed away from inappropriate visual content, the feeling of jerking off can be very addicting, especially when thinking of a good looking person who dresses snazzy (nice) or when wearing a certain article of clothing.

You have to train yourself to look away when you see someone provacative in person or on screen. That's your trigger. Learn your triggers and try your very best to shut them down. Memorize this verse as closely as possible and say it to yourself whenever you start getting those feelings. “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want”. You ARE NOT ALONE! This is one tough battle but you just have to keep drilling it everytime you get those urges. Cmon Alex you can do this just try to do as I recommend and it could get better!

Thank you. Today I messed with my banana again, but the more I study God's teachings, the less I touch myself.

Do you believe doing that unto itself is sinful?

It is not sinful as in doing it, but I do have lustful thoughts, and that is where it becomes a sin. And hey, most guys in their 20s have these feelings, so I feel that God is forgiving. I will remain celibate until marriage with a woman, but sometimes I do lust over guys as well, but that is a sin, according to multiple Bible passages. By the way, I lust over folks who are well dressed (in other words, modest), attractive, and even more so, if they are nice.

For myself, as a Christian bi guy, I will remain single and celibate unless married to a woman, in order to stay true to God’s teaching, and prevent catching or spreading disease. Celibacy is similar to a seat belt or face mask, as these are methods to protect people from harm. Yes, there are a lot of handsome guys out there in the world, but it feels morally wrong for me to go against scripture and put others at risk. After hearing about the Mpox outbreak in 2022 (spread primarily by gay folks, but also straight intercourse), it has made me realize that verses about celibacy and homosexuality are in the Bible are probably there to warn us about protecting our health, as our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). According to a June 2012 study by the Guttmacher Institute, gay males are 2.3-6.9x more likely to receive an STD compared to straight male counterparts. In other words, it is safer for others and myself to remain celibate if gay or bi, instead of being in a homosexual relationship.

With the attitude of "But hey God is forgiving so it's all good" you will never break free from those chains TRUST ME. I know this because that was always my excuse. Why then did I feel guilty after pleasuring myself? Because I KNEW I was giving into the desires of my flesh and being convicted in doing so. It's not glorifying to God to do so. For too long did I have that same attitude, and for too long did it plague me. NO MORE. You risk so much. Again, I can relate to you brother in that way. I'm 39 now and just barely realizing this. I know it's one of the hardest things in life to overcome, but you are HERE looking for help, unlike me who didn't until it was almost too late. I almost lost my entire family to the desires of the flesh. These things carry on into your future.

Regarding your sexuality, you are doing great in realizing what you need to NOT do in order to please God and I commend (not condemn lol) you 100% for that! Remember this scripture as it's helped me bigtime recently :
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
