  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yet you fail to address why the police literally stand there uselessly gawking.

The powers that be have decided to stand them down. It is the same thing like at Berkeley for example... where the cops stand down and allow antifa to assault conservatives. Magically... the antifa rioters are fully kitted with swag, signage, weapons, medical personnel, and chartered busses to move them around.

Shall I address the elephant in the room and point out that the vast majority of the riots were in democratic strongholds?

Virtually all cities are Democratic strongholds, so yeah, protests are going to be where the people actually are.

Right...because all cities obviously have Democratic mayors. I completely forgot about that. But seriously, ask yourself why so many "progressive" cities are burning right now? Perhaps this is a result of decades of failed democrat policies and progressive social experiments? Or it could be from all the racist white people in Minnesota and San Francisco?

I’m not sure how to interpret your tone. Are you doubting that claim?

For one thing, most of these cities aren’t nearly as left-leaning as you seem to think, particularly among the folks with money and power. Second, even the Dems were all about “law and order” and all that entails until pretty recently. Third, are you trying to imply that conservatives would do better?

I believe that Democratic policies have completely failed the African American communities. The African Americans have been promised things for the last 50 years from the Democrats and little of it has actually helped. The inner city communities have remained problems forever, with Democrats in control of Congress and the state and local governments.
Which are also in charge of the police.

Yet we see all the claims against the police and most of these places are run by Democrats.

Now I feel for the black community. There are just too many stories of black people being stopped by cops "for no reason". There are stories of coaches of the Clippers, and inspirational speakers who are well off being stopped for no reason by cops.

We cannot turn a blind eye and say it doesn't happen. It does. Should it happen. No it shouldn't.

So we need to come together and acknowledge failures on both sides of the issue. The black community as a whole owns a large piece of the problem. Cops own a chunk of the problem.

It's time both sides quit blaming the other and recognize the faults of their own side. Cops are not all to blame. Black people are not all to blame. And as long as we just point fingers no one is going to improve.

It seems they do. The question is why?

Self reflection is not a strong point of most people. And of course there will be opportunists that will stroke the amber of hatred to their own benefits like politicians and social activists.

Because that’s where the protests are taking place and the rioters and looters are taking advantage of that situation to cause destruction, steal and get away with it. Large urban areas have lots of people and lots of people are a lot harder to control than fewer people in a small, isolated town.

Perhaps this is a result of decades of failed democrat policies and progressive social experiments? Or it could be from all the racist white people in Minnesota and San Francisco?
Or it’s because something like over 80% of the country lives in or around it’s large urban centers.

Clinton comes to mind. He had no problem with relatively draconian criminal justice- that's part of what he ran on.

I am not implying, I am merely pointing out my observation. Last I checked, even in red states, the riots were in very blue cities. But even these were relatively small. Did you know there was a riot it Dallas? Most people don't because you hardly heard it in the news.

Again, riots happen where the people are, which is in cities, which are almost all run by Democrats. It’s hard to have a riot in a cornfield or the woods.

There are actually a lot of Republican led cities.

Such as? How do they stack up against other cities?

I know there are many with Republican mayors but how many have Republican city councils? Or reliably vote Republican in national elections?
