  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Like what? You’re the one posting lists. You found a list of “worst run cities”. It would stand to reason that there exist “best-run cities.”
I didn't post the list.

Such as? How do they stack up against other cities?

I know there are many with Republican mayors but how many have Republican city councils? Or reliably vote Republican in national elections?
Like Fort Worth, Chattanooga, Oklahoma city, Scottsdale, Jacksonville to name a few. True, they may not be the most populated. But if the issue is racism and white nationalism, don't you think it seems odd that the South received little attention? The only southern riot that I know of was Atlanta. But again, Atlanta is a very blue city.

Come to think of it, the South acquired its racist reputation when it was dominantly....Democrat. The KKK? Democrat. Jim Crow? Democrat.

derp, my mistake.

Like Fort Worth, Chattanooga, Oklahoma city, Scottsdale, Jacksonville to name a few.

Fort Worth's current mayor is a Republican but the prior two were Democrats. Looking at their congressional maps, Fort Worth appears to be both pretty suburban (like most of Texas) and rather gerrymandered. The district that covered the central areas of both Dallas and Fort Worth has a Democrat congressman and voted Democrat in the last two presidential elections.

The current mayor of Chattanooga is a Democrat.

I'm not going to go through the rest of them, but I imagine that if you break down the geography of things, the city centers would skew left while the more suburban areas would skew right. And in a municipality with a lot of sprawl, those suburban areas could easily swamp the denser urban core.

True, they may not be the most populated. But if the issue is racism and white nationalism, don't you think it seems odd that the South received little attention? The only southern riot that I know of was Atlanta. But again, Atlanta is a very blue city.

No, I don't think it's odd, because the South never had a monopoly on racism.

That said, Louisville is getting a lot of attention and more are happening than you probably realize:

This again? Really?

Is it? More outrageous than the number of black lives lost?

I think I've seen this list posted on here before. It's of black people killed by police in the last ~5 years. Iirc, it contains unlawfull killings, problematic killings, accidental killings and justified killings (at least in the opinion of investigators/judges). A bit of a mixed bag.

and the reason that's funny to me is because I don't think lobsters could actually ransack a Target store because lobsters move really slow, I think, though I'm not sure because I've never seen a lobster walking on land and I've never studied botany or anything but I think they'd be slow and Target stores are pretty big and I don't think they could get to the higher shelves anyway so they could cause a minor disruption but not a ransacking and anyway since they're slow there should be employees there who could stop them before they did much of anything but I can't say for sure since I've never worked in retail but the misreading of the thread title was just funny to me though I want to emphasize that I am not anti-lobster and I did not intend to disparage them and I in no way mean to suggest that lobsters would in fact ransack a Target store even if they could because even though they do sort of look disgusting like giant cockroaches with claws I'm sure they have more self-respect and dignity than to ransack a Target store.
