  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Obama actually added the Bush wars onto the budget and the unfunded Medicare extensions.

But my point was that government spends money on things we don't want it to. There is no way a government will always spend money on the things you only want it to.

Sounds like a democratic government alright... the problem is, we aren't a democratic govenment!

So is it safe to assume that you don't mind that the federal government takes $20k from you and invests it in things like bailing out unions and purchasing toxic assets?

I disagree with most of what government does. Our government is in need of serious reform. Neither party offers any real promise of reforming the corruption and waste of the system. However, i think that Obama at least sees it as a problem, whereas Romney sees it as an opportunity. Romney made his fortune at the expense of other Americans, not by adding value to our economy. There is a world of difference between the wealthy like Bill Gates versus those like Mitt Romney.

I disagree more with what Romney would do with my money even more than what Obama would do with my money.

I'm calling Ohio for Obama based on Rove being an idiot. I doubt I will be wrong on BOTH of those.
You mean that idiot that led Bush to consecutive victories over the best the Democrats had to offer :D:D:D

Miami-Dade and Broward counties are the biggest population centers left to count. The only way Romney wins is if more of the remaining votes in these 2 counties don't follow the existing distributions on those counties.

Senate is 48-42. Almost definite that dems will hold it. House is 166-114 in favor of republicans, almost certain they will hold that.

Nothing will change if Obama wins. Sad.

Or, when you get even older, and you understand that plenty of hard working people don't get paid for their hard work, and that your own success is largely derivative of advanced opportunity (doesn't mean you didn't work hard, but hard work alone isn't the path to wealth. The old adage "it's not what you know, but who you know" is very true), you'll understand that conservatism isn't a reasonable ideaology.

I'm a liberal, but that doesn't make me a democrat. Both parties are complicit in corporate cronyism, neither party is promoting a system that benefits the working American.

The problem in your reasoning, Minichervi, is that most (certainly not all) of the extremely wealthy (which does not include you nor i, though we are both among the privileged) "earn" their money on the backs of the poor.

I've shared my background before, but I'll do it again...I grew up in a lower class household (family of 5; $45k household income until the time I was about 16). Parent couldn't afford to cover the tab for my college, so I got a loan for part of it and worked full time while going to college to pay for the other half of it. Spent multiple years waking up at 6am and not getting home until midnight 5-6 days a week to be able to get a degree while working full time in a warehouse.

Not much of that advantage you describe...

So when I'm expected to foot the bill for others who are in my former situation who don't want to make the same sacrifices I did, surely you can understand why it's frustrating...

Another interesting thing to note is that while some are born into wealth, 80% of millionaires are first-generation millionaires.
