  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've shared my background before, but I'll do it again...I grew up in a lower class household (family of 5; $45k household income until the time I was about 16). Parent couldn't afford to cover the tab for my college, so I got a loan for part of it and worked full time while going to college to pay for the other half of it. Spent multiple years waking up at 6am and not getting home until midnight 5-6 days a week to be able to get a degree while working full time in a warehouse.

Not much of that advantage you describe...

So when I'm expected to foot the bill for others who are in my former situation who don't want to make the same sacrifices I did, surely you can understand why it's frustrating...

Another interesting thing to note is that while some are born into wealth, 80% of millionaires are first-generation millionaires.

I hear you. I had a scholarship which I couldn't use, and then a pell grant which I couldn't use... went to college paid my own way, while working full time and raising 2 children and a spouse who didn't work and went to college. And these kiddoes want free college and a high paying job upon exit???? Pansies.

So, where does the GOP go from here? Do they:
1. Try and return more to the middle ground so they don't alienate certain demographics and turn off moderates?
2. Or, conclude they lost due to not being conservative enough, and Romney not exciting the base, and shift even further to the right?

Could go either way really. The Tea Party candidates for the Senate didn't do so well, so maybe they'll try and pull it in a bit?
