  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Go right ahead.

I'm missing it.

I told you EXACTLY what I think.

And please stop telling me what others thought and please tell me what you think.Wow.

I think the Bible says a lot of good stuff and a lot of scary horrible things. I think the Bible gives people permission to treat other people horribly. I think the Bible lends support to genocide and murder (1 Sam 15:3). And I also think the Bible teaches a lot about how to love thy neighbor and to take care of the poor.

FYI, I'm an Independent Fundamental Baptist.

But I suspect you are OK with eating lobster and pork and you probably mix your fibers or trim the corners of your beard once in a while. I suspect you aren't out trying to get the community to stone adulterers and I'm guessing you are suffering witches to live (assuming you believe in such things).

You are "friendly" fundamentalist. Most people who live in modern society are able to dine at the buffet of their religion and pass on the really bad stuff (and they even come up with amazingly beautiful exegeses that allow them to think they are somehow working around the worst parts of their holy books). It's usually when people take the words in the holy books literally that everyone has problems.

Only because you've traded 20/20 vision for science.

You can't "look under the hood" like Bible believers can and see what we see.

Science is myopic.
You're an interesting fellow, AV.

The definition of a (human) fetus is an unborn human child (at least 8 weeks old).
But is an unborn human child a fetus?

If so, why isn't it murder to remove this unborn human child?

Speaking of fail, it took three men dying on the launch pad in a fire before the brainiacs at NASA built the hatches to open inward, instead of outward.

Kinda ironic that they later gave us the Super Soaker,™ isn't it?
What's the advantage of opening inwards?

When the fire broke out, they couldn't push open the hatch to get out because of the vacuum caused by the lack of air.

And even though the loss of air put the fire out, they died of smoke inhalation.

No.

That's a cheap shot against literalists that isn't worth addressing.

Then let me boil it down to just one question...

Do you believe that EVERY PART of the Bible is intended to be interpreted literally?

Of course not.

I interpret the newspaper literally, but I don't believe every part is intended to be interpreted literally, which speaks of sunrise and sunset, moonlight, and so on.

Just as the Bible does.

Wrong; they couldn't get out because the pressure inside was too high. The test was done with slightly higher than atmospheric pressure (+2 lbs/sq in) and the fire increased the pressure until the command module actually ruptured, blowing flames out into the White Room.

Once initiated, the fire burned in three stages. The first stage with its associated rapid temperature rise and increase in the cabin pressure, terminated approximately 15 seconds after the verbal report of fire. At this time (about 23:31:19 GMT) the pressure vessel, which constitutes the Command Module cabin, ruptured.

Evidence is strong that a wall of flames extended along the left wall of the module, preventing the Command Pilot, occupying the left hand couch from reaching the valve which would vent the Command Module to the outside atmosphere. Although operation of this valve, located on a shelf above the left hand equipment bay, is the first step in established emergency egress procedures, such action would have been to no avail because the venting capacity was insufficient to prevent the rapid build-up of pressure due to the fire. It is estimated that opening the valve would have delayed Command Module rupture by less than one second.

With a slightly higher pressure inside the Command Module than outside, opening the inner hatch is impossible because of the resulting force on the hatch. Thus the inability of the pressure relief system to cope with pressure increase due to the fire made opening of the inner hatch impossible until after cabin rupture, and after rupture the intense and widespread fire together with rapidly increasing carbon monoxide concentrations further prevented egress.

The crew died from toxic gas asphyxiation and thermal burns.

There were actually three hatches to open, an inner pressure hatch, the CM outer hatch, and a launch shroud hatch (to be jettisoned after launch), and the White Room was full of dense, choking smoke, which is why it took around 5 minutes to gain access to the CM interior to attempt rescue.
