Well, the former remark would be directly against a group of people she doesn't know all of, and I wouldn't have any problem with the latter.

I can assure most people would be just as inclined to enjoy a joke about Jews, Muslims or their religious figures as they would when it comes to Christianity.

You must not watch very much stand-up comedy, if you think that no one tells jokes about Jewish people or Muslims.

I love stand up. I'd quite probably marry Sarah Silverman. And of course there's the classic line by the muslim comedienne Shazia Mirza;

Lighten up, man. She is a non-Christian so technically Jesus didn't have anything to do with her winning the award. Plus there is nothing sacred in comedy. If someone makes a joke that I find offensive I just shrug it off and go on my way. I don't go running to the media talking about how persecuted I am.

I don't believe his comments were grounds for his termination, but his employer did.

I find it ironic that so many of the people who cry about the awful nature of political correctness are the same people trying to draw a line in the sand regarding religious comedy. Seems to be a bit hypocritical.

They've secularized every public school and public association. God is pretty much taken out of anything public.

The sad thing is anti-christian/catholic bigotry dosen't effect people the way anti-seminitism does. Imus makes a joking comment about blacks and its all over the world what a horrible person he is, this woman makes a bigotted comment about christians and everyone cheers her on and laughes..

That's right, because public school should never be used to teach religious belief. We have churches for that. Do you believe in God? Do you want your children to learn about God? Teach them at home, and take them to church. Problem solved.

God is pretty much taken out of anything public.

Cry me a river. If we Christians care about God so much, we can worship Him in one of the many churches in this country - that's why we have them. The federal government does not exist to serve Christianity and its beliefs.

Well, if you reserve the right to read people´s minds you will be able to make anything they do or say an argument against them.
Laughter is not an intellectual statement and it does not necessarily show the general view as to what one finds acceptable. Something usually is funny exactly because it violates our feeling as to what´s acceptable. There are many tv-shows that appeal to Schadenfreude solely, and many people find them funny. Most jokes are inacceptable if you try to derive an intellectual statement from the laughter they are responded with.
Laughter is a spontaneous relief of emotions, unless it is calculated laugher - something which you and I can not tell, unless it´s our own laughing.

Maybe if you apply for satellite with over a thousajnd channels. The point is, in the general media(Fox, NBC, MTV, CNN) there is a great liberal double standard, where bashing Jews or Muslims is viewed as racist, but bashing christians is viewed as funny and amusing..

The laughter from that audience shows what the general consensus thinks. Since those people in the audience were from all walks of life. However if she said "Jews can suck it" you can almost guarantee there would be silence and no one laughing...

The Emmys Awards aren't a comedian act. Secondly on public general TV there is something called FCC regulations. If she had said "jews can suck it" the FCC would have taken that off the air and the media would have banned it. The Emmys are on PUBLIC television (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX networks). These networks have FCC regulations. Its not like this is some uncensored cable show where rules barely apply.
