  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Fine. Next time someone makes an anti-semetic joke, or a "negro" joke, Ill be sure to tell them to LIGHTEN UP..

You will too, right??
Actually I would tell them to lighten up. Thats just me however. I know other people would disagree, just as you disagree with me on this.

I also don't think mocking the idea of Jesus is the same as insulting Christan's at all. She was specific and was pointing out the craziness of thanking Jesus for winning an award. I happen to agree that it's a silly thing to do. I don't go around bashing people for saying it but it was funny to hear her say what so many people are actually thinking.

Lighten up :)

The Emmys Awards aren't a comedian act. Secondly on public general TV there is something called FCC regulations. If she had said "jews can suck it" the FCC would have taken that off the air and the media would have banned it. The Emmys are on PUBLIC television (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX networks). These networks have FCC regulations. Its not like this is some uncensored cable show where rules barely apply.
If she said "christians can suck it" you might have a point. But she didn't, and for many people Jesus is a fictional character anyway.

Care to produce evidence that supports FCC regulations baring statements like "Jews can suck it"?

I find the content of 'Family Guy' to be much more universally offensive than Griffin's remarks. Yet, that show seems to fall within FCC guidelines.

Insulting Jesus is insulting Christians..
i don't think you understand her point at all, and you need to learn to take a joke.
i think jesus could take a joke

But by going by your standard. I can says "Jews can suck it" and all is well and funny..
but she didn't say christians can suck it, it wouldn't have been funny anyway.

You see no double standard because of the hypocrisy blinding your eyes..
i think you just want something to pitch a fit about, and are twisting her joke to feel persecuted

Family Guy is late night cable. Not public cable like the emmy awards..

FCC goes against anything baring racial/religious remarks

I never cried persecution. Persecution is what is being done to christians in North Korea and the middle east.. This OP was posted to show the immense double standard the media has towards christians. If Kathy Griffen said what she said about any OTHER faith, you can almost guarantee it would be off the air and ruin her career.

Family Guy is on broadcast tv.

and the double standards don't come from "the media" they come from the audience....and katy griffen has joked about other faiths, constantly.....and don't forget Mencia, LL....and they bash EVERYONE...their careers are fine.

do you speak against people making jokes about other faiths?

frankly I don't like Kathy Griffin too much and i find her to be mildly annoying. Her jokes are wide spread across several celebs, faiths, family and friends and so on...and really thats the bulk of what Ive herd.

I prefer the late greats. Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor......

Maybe if you apply for satellite with over a thousajnd channels. The point is, in the general media(Fox, NBC, MTV, CNN) there is a great liberal double standard, where bashing Jews or Muslims is viewed as racist, but bashing christians is viewed as funny and amusing..
I´m not really familiar with the American TV-situation, so I can´t give a conclusive statement. I have watched a bit of Fox occasionally, though, and if you feel they spread a liberal bias, this tells me more about how far right you are than anything else.

The laughter from that audience shows what the general consensus thinks. Since those people in the audience were from all walks of life. However if she said "Jews can suck it" you can almost guarantee there would be silence and no one laughing...
You have made that assertion already. I have given you my thoughts on laughter and intellect. Simply repeating what we have said won´t get us anywhere.

Ummm... no. Family Guy is primetime broadcast TV. It airs sunday nights at 9 on Fox with various reruns airing on TBS and the cartoon network. IIRC, Griffin's statements were aired on a cable station (because she didn't get the award as part of the main Emmy awards ceremony), which are not subject the same sorts of rules Family Guy would be subject to. I don't think you have any idea what you are talking about.

I have laughed at racists jokes before even though I know that I'm not supposed to. Comedy is often about exposing stereotypes for what they are.

Complaining about a self-admitted D-list celebrity making a joke about our religion just makes us Christians look silly and insecure in our faith.

I know I will. Speaking as someone who is half black and half Jewish, I love a good joke that pokes fun at my heritages. It's all about context. Most people can tell the difference between something that is funny or mean-spirited.

If it's funny, yeah. Jokes are jokes.

Part of the reason why Christian jokes tend to be so un-offensive is because we all know that Christians have always been the most privileged and least discriminated against group in America.
