Yes, I have been following this case for quite some time now. I think it's a frivilous suit, created by parents who care more about making a stink than their children's education. The sticker, in no way, implies anything about Divine Creation. It doesn't even apply to religious dogma in any form. It's simply a disclaimer that says evolution is a theory, not a scientific absolute. Basically, nobody wins in this situation. The students aren't benefiting from the labels either way. People who believe in Divine Creation want it to be clear that evolution is not a hard, cold scientific fact are offended by the removal of them, just as parents who felt it pushed "religious dogma" on their children were offended by the disclaimers being there in the first place.

I'm glad the stickers were removed, if for no other reason than they promote a non-scientific definition of "theory" in what is supposed to be a scientific context.

Ahhh...we had gone a good week or so without a debate about evolution versus intelligent design...glad we're BACK at it!!!

BTW...it's a sticker...did I mention...a sticker? Has anyone's life been ruined by a sticker? (Trying to get over the emotional trauma of scratch 'n sniff stickers as a child...please...no more root beer for me.)

Childhood scratch 'n' sniff wasn't so bad--was a BIG grape fan--but did anyone else happen to see the John Waters movie where you picked up a scratch 'n' sniff card in the lobby, so you could "smell along" with the movie by scratching the appropriate sticker when the number flashed on the screen? Pink Flamingoes. Oh. My. God.

Good ruling because there obviously was a reason that this sticker was placed in the textbook. It was an attempt to undermine science. They were basically trying to use the colloquial understanding of a theory in order to press the idea that evolution is just as valid as other theories. The problem in doing so you spoil the child's understanding of science and the scientific method. Unlike a general theory, which is based on general ideas, scientific theory is based on FACTS gathered from experiments using the scientific method.

It comes as no surprise that this case happened in the South.

I am a southerner that travels, I think your assumption is false by observation alone. I think you are making a generalization that feeds a need in you. Just a suggestion; You can become a very narrow minded person if not careful.

I took the question as laid bait and I refuse to answer it. One just has to look at history to see the obvious reasons for my comment about the South, the courts, and science.

Meh..I suppose your right, I mean, in the past...the South has advocated slavery, segragtion, and now apparently is advocating an anti-science philosphy....all of which are OBVIOUSLY a product of wisdom...not ignorance/foolishness .
