Why? I love Joyce and I like Jakes. Never heard of Scott.

I agree with Zecryphon. They are dangerous. Test what they preach and everyone for that matter, with what the Scriptures say. They twist it.

While the wind is an analogy of the Holy Spirit, it is not regarding "speaking in tongues" which has absolutely nothing to do with salvation. Jesus is comparing the unpredictability of the Spirit and His role in salvation to the capriciousness of the wind, which changes direction several thousand times a day, blows easy and then blows hard, and then easy again. Man cannot understand the wind, and he cannot understand how the Spirit accomplishes salvation.

You're on the wrong board to espouse those beliefs, sir. Take them back to your board with you, please.
Do as I say but not as I do!!!

Your opinion misses the detail given in scripture.
Anyone interested in taking this further is welcome to PM me.

It isn't my opinion, it is the fact of the passage. There is no biblical support for tongues being "evidence" of the Holy Spirit. Nothing in God's word teaches that. Holding to your view requires a subversion of the Scriptures. Now, as I said, please take it elsewhere, and that means also, do not invite people to PM discussions on it. It is not something acceptable for discussion on this Forum. Good day.

Put it like this , he has gotten people saved and listening to the word of God, and only God knows the purpose he has for him so it is not up to me to judge him........

As Christians, we are to judge one another in a non-hypocritical way.

1 Corinthians 5:12

12For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

2 Timothy 3

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

I have never said I was an Osteen supporter, Zecryphon.

I fyou would kindly review post #160, you will see how I gave the Holy Spirit the glory for whatever work He does in spite of the shortcomings of the messenger.

This what EVERY pastor should be preaching regularly.

Imagine....teaching the word of God...from God's perspective!
I listened to the first 30 minutes, again, he makes some good points; but again he's telling them to be holy but hasn't told them about the need to get the power to be holy, the Holy Spirit inside - with him leading you in prayer according to God's perfect will (speaking in tongues). I feel sorry for the people he is speaking to, and him, that's why I come here as a voice in the cyberness.

Does Osteen teach against the manifestation of tongues or something?

I'm not sure I understand why "tongues" are being discussed as an issue.
Someone brought up Paul Washer, he's saying that "American Christianity" is rotten, but I'm saying no amount of repentance & being sorry and preaching hard sermons will enable people to be as God wants, unless they get what all Jesus' disciples got at Pentecost, (and what the people they preached to got - Acts 10:44-48, 19:1-6)

I think you will find neither of our featured preachers is telling people that.

Listen to the whole teaching. He makes the point over and over that it is by the power of the Holy Spirit that we are made Holy, that it is only by the constant renewing of your mind in the Word of our Lord and His working in our life can we know that we have salvation.

This is only a single sermon, on a single passage (Matt 7:13-27) to a youth group at a weekend retreat, not a concise and complete doctoral thesis. He is laying the groundwork for a much deeper lifetime study.

It should make you want to dig much deeper into that passage, and from there step into a much more in depth study of the whole Bible.

As why you say that speaking in tongues is Gods perfect will is a mystery to me, Paul himself plays it down in 1Cr 14:1-19.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that without the power of the Holy Spirit working
within us, we cannot do what we are required to do. But people can't even get
there until they go through the blood of Jesus first, and they aren't going to get
washed in the blood, until they understand that they are in need of cleansing
and can get clean by no other means. The Disciples received the Holy Ghost when Jesus
breathed on them after the resurrection, but they did not receive the
Baptism of the Holy Ghost until Pentecost.

God bless
