You know what's funny is that the very same people complaining of Bush's and Palin's pronunciation of "nuclear" would not dare question Jesse Jackson for saying something like, "I didn't axe him any questions."

When did Joe Six-Pack American deserve to be in the Vice Presidency? Isn't that the point of the Presidency, that the President should be considerably above average?
Jon Stewart said it best...
Did I say you defended him?Mach wrote:
Fair enough. Can you point to where I defended JJ for the axe?
Then can we expect a post here anytime soon detailing the correct pronunciation of the word "ask" noting the error in usage by some people, such as Jesse Jackson? If not, do you think we should generally believe people who make unsupported assertions?

Besides the fact that I really dislike JJ (based on what I've seen of him), if he is pronouncing ask like axe, than he needs to go back to middle school english, along with others that find speaking properly a challenge.Did I say you defended him?

Sure to Republicans that's qualification! After all McCain has made a career out of being a POW!
Reminds me of some lazy bums I know who have made a career out of Workmen's Comp.
Considering how many marriages and lives, that alcohol has destroyed I wouldn't be making an issue of appealing to all the beer drinkers out there, but hey you take what you can get, huh!

Neither is George bush or Sarah Palin
So you're saying that a particular pronunciation of a word can be an indication of lack of intelligence?Sarah Palin intelligence or in this case lack thereof in very important whether she is the President or the VP since she is but a heartbeat from the Presidency but you already know that and obviously do not care.

What way does she speak?
You are going down a goat trail that leads no where. A common mindset in American-Left politics is that if someone disagrees with me, then they are dumber then me. The attitude pretty much kills anything that involves civil discussion. This thread is a prime example.
Why is this even an issue? Or a partisan one? Jimmy Carter pronounced the word just like Bush.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/nuclear
Pronunciation: \ˈnü-klē-ər, ˈnyü-, ÷-kyə-lər\
It's only hard if you want it to be.

Or we can look up similar sounding words such as muscularOr if you never learned to use a pronunciation guide. In that case it would be very difficult, dealing with symbols you had never learned.
Or we can look up similar sounding words such as muscular
Main Entry: nu·cle·ar Pronunciation: \ˈnü-klē-ər, ˈnyü-, ÷-kyə-lər\ Main Entry: mus·cu·lar javascript:popWin('/cgi-bin/audio.pl?muscul01.wav=muscular') Pronunciation: \ˈməs-kyə-lər\ Of course, I guess I've been wrong all these years and the proper pronunciation for muscualr is "mus clear"
So who says nuc you ler as oppesed to new kya ler? And please offer your factual evidenceNo, again the schwa is a short vowel. The provided "məs-kyə-lər" is not pronounced Musc-you-ler, but mus-kya-ler.
I do not know why you misrepresent the pronunciation while simultaneously providing the refutation. This is not one of those debatable issues. A schwa has a definite sound, and it is NEVER a long vowel. You can get as angry as you like about this, but it will never change for you.
The Webster's website even gives an audible representation of the pronunciation, and it disagrees. I seriously do not know why you continue to argue such a futile point.
