Israel and Hamas reach ceasefire deal​

According to the Hamas delegation in Doha, the provisions Hamas agreed to include the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip and the opening of the Rafah crossing. The provisions also include handing over 33 Israeli prisoners, dead and alive, in exchange for the release of 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, according to the Hamas delegation.

President Joe Biden is expected to address the deal soon.

I do not understand what they are celebrating. They started this war and then proceeded to have their home destroyed in an extremely one-sided conflict that lasted a bit over a year. Now they have to give back their hostages and then they will get some help in rebuilding what they had (which of course included funnelling material and funds towards Hamas to rebuild their weapon stockpiles and tunnel network).

What have they won? What is there to celebrate?

It is possible that the celebrating Gazans are happy that Hamas has lost this war. Maybe they are sick and tired of the killing and they simply want to live in peace with their Israeli neighbors.

I think Netanyahu will face political repercussions, but we'll see.

Palestinian Christians working in a Hospital run by the Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and the Middle East, offering hope and healing whilst shining a light in dark places. Palestinian Christians are living in the land they call home, the land of the forbears for many generations. Your answer for fellow Christians is that they should go. I for one am glad they are there. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not put it out. Your assumption that any excuse that Israel utters is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth does not pass what we in Australia call the pub test. I am not supporting Hamas, and I urge you to pray for Palestinian Christians and the Churches in the region.

Using the term "human shields" to justify the massacre of tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians, which includes women and children, is not only a serious violation of international law but is morally indefensible. And being, in this particular case, fellow Christians doing the Lord's work, it is predictable yet still alarming how indifferent some Christians in the West are towards Christians in the Middle East.

To give an analogy, if a school shooter was hiding out in a classroom full of children, when would it ever be morally acceptable to bomb the whole school?
