Israel has proposed a two-month pause in fighting in Gaza in exchange for the release of all remaining hostages held in the territory, US media has reported. Officials have offered the deal to Hamas through mediators in Qatar and Egypt, the political website Axios reported, citing top Israeli officials. It would not include any agreement to end the war.
May all live in peace.

It would be great but, I do not see that happening unless Israel surrenders. That is basically what everyone is asking of Israel.

That is why the IDF developed Sponge Bombs.
I saw that early in the conflict. There's been little said since. It's not a permanent solution. The chemicals are not safe to use and I don't know how expensive they are. Apparently they were more for blocking side tunnels to prevent ambushes after the troops had passed by in the main tunnel.

The Wall Street Journal reported American intelligence estimates confirmed that the Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas ) still possesses enough ammunition to strike Israel for several more months, and quoted Israeli officials as admitting that the goal of destroying Hamas during the war on Gaza “was not achieved,” despite Air and ground campaign and massive destruction. The newspaper quoted American officials as confirming that the Hamas movement is restructuring its police force in parts of Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip, in addition to providing emergency services, stressing that the movement’s survival raises questions about the possibility of Israel achieving its goals in the war.

An Israeli military officer also confirmed to the newspaper that Hamas authorities linked to the Ministry of Interior had returned to Gaza City, including areas that the Israeli army said were under its control. Israeli officials acknowledged to the newspaper that Hamas fighters are adapting to the fighting, and military analysts said that the movement's new tactics are to fight in smaller groups and hide the ambushes it sets for Israeli forces, which shows its ability to withstand the destruction of large areas in the Gaza Strip.

Retired Army General Joseph Votel - who led US military operations in the Middle East - confirmed to the newspaper that Hamas is resilient and has shown that it is still capable of fighting despite its losses, as he put it.
Israel has said it will be a long war. Some seem to think that Hamas is just a gang of thugs that will dissolve under pressure. Not at all. They are hard line Muslim fanatics for whom death is a ticket to "paradise". Deceived, of course. They remind me of the Japanese soldiers in WW2.

See post #2,920, there not much in Netanyahu &Co's rhetoric

and treatment of the people of Gaza that even match up to the traits of Abrahams disciples.
Israel is fundamentally a secular state. It has been fighting for its existence for 75 years. I suggest that they have a low tolerance level for anything that puts them at more risk. Ukraine let down its guard. That did not end well.

Israel is a secular State, established after a long period, ostensibly by the UN though heavily prepared for by the UK. In part, it is a Western Solution for the Levant, and problematic in execution.

Please try not to derail the thread by talking about the Ukraine conflict which has a different history, story and motive, and has not ended well.

Hamas has rejected Israel’s proposal for a two-month ceasefire during which the terror group would release Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian security prisoners, said a senior Egyptian official on Tuesday, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The official said that Hamas leaders have also refused to leave Gaza and are demanding that Israel fully withdraw from the territory and allow Palestinians to return to their homes.

Israel did not confirm the report. Channel 12 news quoted unnamed Israeli officials saying on Tuesday evening that Israel has not been informed of Hamas rejecting the offer.

The footage is reminiscent of the attacks launched by Hamas on October 7, when over 1,200 Israelis were killed. One of the buildings contains a hanging portrait of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while an Israeli bystander who is attacked appears to be dressed in ultra-Orthodox (haredi) clothing.

When broken down by party, 66% of Republicans, 51% of Democrats, and 43% of "true independents" support increasing or maintaining funding to Israel. Only 19% of Republicans support a decrease in funding, compared with 27% of Democrats. However, 2% of Democrats and 4% of Independents support giving money to Hamas.

I think it tragic people would support the destruction of Israel. That is what support for their enemies is.

The Israeli lobby has been very successful in separating the notion of aid to Israel from other foreign aid money.

...how Israel can keep a weakened Hamas from rebuilding is an open, and vexing, question for military leaders. The entity that ultimately governs Gaza — whether the Palestinian Authority, as the United States advocates, or an international force, an idea that some Israeli officials have floated — will determine whether IDF troops can operate from permanent positions inside the enclave or respond from bases just across the border.

Remaining inside would amount to reoccupying Gaza, a goal supported by far-right politicians but fiercely opposed by Washington and by most Israelis, polls show. A long-term security presence, which would keep Israel responsible for Palestinian civilians and expose troops to constant threats, was dismissed as a “nightmare scenario” by most of the security establishment, according to the military source.
“We would be sitting ducks,” he said

I was referring to Ukraine as an example of why Israel is not going to kowtow to western demands to end the war.

Obstacles are miracles waiting to happen.

When the children of Israel came to the sea of reeds,

with Pharaoh's army on their heels. Remember?

But bombing the daylights out of a people, any people is hardly a miracle.

I'll say it again. Israel is a secular state.

Israel uses worldly methods to answer worldly attacks from worldly nations. The miracle is that Israel exists at all. It should have been stillborn in 1948. That's when the miracles first occurred as a rag tag army defeated 5 nations. One day we will see God's involvement clearly. For now, it is a defensive war against an army of religious zealots that are intent on eradicating Israel. I don't know of any nation that would put up with that. Hamas sowed the wind. They are reaping the whirlwind.

So Israel only controls not quite half of Gaza. Well that is a sight more than when they started. The tunnels?

It will be interesting to see what they do with those. My thoughts would be to Pump them full of sea water. There a lot of water in the ocean.

Keep going Israel. Dont give up!
