But specifics of certain Commands is important to understanding how to properly love, though. When Jesus said to the rich young ruler that if we are to enter into life we should keep the Commandments, the rich young ruler said he had kept them all. But Jesus said if you will be perfect sell all that you have and come follow me. But the rich young ruler was not willing to give up his wealth for Jesus and follow Him. He loved his riches more than he loved the LORD. No doubt the rich young ruler could have thought like most Christians today and just think he was loving God and his neighbor his own way. But we see that the rich young ruler was not willing to truly follow Jesus (and give up his wealth) and love the Lord on God's terms.

Jesus said if you love me, keep my commandments. Obviously the greatest two are not the only commands He has given us. 1 John 3:23 is one command that is foundational to our faith; And preaching the gospel and helping the poor are also commands given to us under the New Testament. In fact, not helping the poor in any way in this life (especially when we had opportunity to do so) is showing that we do not love Jesus. For Jesus says, if you have done unto to the least of these, you have done it unto me. For Jesus says to those who did not help those who were poor to depart from Him. This is not to say that salvation is in helping the poor. Salvation is ultimately in Christ and abiding in Him who is the source of our eternal life. The point here is that if one abides in Christ (Who is the source of eternal life), then one will bring forth good fruit according to God's Commands in the New Testament because Christ lives in them. We go thru the Sanctification process (Which is a necessary step for all believers who live out their faith and who abide in Christ). For without holiness, no man shall see the Lord. Our holiness? No, no. Most certainly not. It is the work of Christ (God) done within us. For there is none good but God. So only His goodness can transform us (If we allow Him to do so of our own free will).

For salvation is Relationship-sim.
Salvation is abiding in Christ.
And if we abide in Christ, then the good fruit of the LORD will be in our life. In other words, we will find ourselves obeying the LORD's commands (i.e. the Commands in the New Testament and not the Old Testament).
Salvation is not Man Directed Works Alone Salvationism;
And Salvation is not Belief-Alone-ism.
Salvation is in the LORD.

As for the Law and the Prophets:

Well, this was said when the Old Covenant was still in effect. The Old Covenant Law as a whole is no longer in effect as an entire package (even though certain moral laws have appeared to have been carried over into the New Covenant). But no Christian is supposed to go back to the Old Law so as to obey God. This is why Paul said we are not under the Law. He was referring to the Old Law. It's only the Commands in the New Testament that we are to follow now. When Jesus died on the cross, the Old Covenant had ended and a New Covenant began. This is why the temple veil was torn from top to bottom. The animal sacrifices (that was a part of the Old Law) is no longer binding anymore. Jesus is our perfect sacrifice. This is why Peter freaked a little when the LORD told him to eat unclean animals in a vision. The Old Law that told him to not eat unclean animals was no longer binding; Even Jesus said shortly before the cross, " ...A new covenant, ...hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away" (Hebrews 8:13). This old law vanished away with Christ's death upon the cross and a new set of laws within a new covenant was implimented. For when a person dies, they sometimes have a written will or testament to give money or their inheritance to their family. This is why the Scriptures say..."For a testament [or will] is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth." (Hebrews 9:17).

Also, Jesus said the Law and the Prophets will not pass away until all will be fulfilled. Jesus fulfilled the Law portion of the Law and the Prophets on the cross. Yet, the Prophets portion of the Law and Prophets has yet to still be fulfilled because many of it's prophecies are still yet future.

Does this mean Christians are partial anarchists now? No, no. Most certainly not. The moral laws (like do not steal, do not murder, do not commit adultery, etc.) have been repeated within the New Covenant, but they are not exactly the same because they are no longer attached with death penalties if we are to disobey them. We have God's grace to be forgiven (if we confess and forsake our sins - 1 John 1:9, 1 John 1:7, Proverbs 28:13); This of course is not a means for us to have a license to sin, but it is merely a way so that we can overcome sin (by the LORD's power and help).

Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

What....do both have in common...that the rest ride on?
Love
He goes on to tell the disciple after asking who shall be saved...

Was with man it was impossible..but God possible.....

Jesus is having a teaching moment..
And recall yet to have gone to the cross...
The teaching moment..was that he was life..
Soon..they all would come to understand...main point
Was .....love...

It truly didnt matter what he did outwardly..because the heart was the key to outward manifestations...and only by the LOVE of christ....for there is no greater love then a man lay down his life for a friend...only by Christ's love would he be made alive.

Now here you said a mouth full...
But if you would have read...the definition of love you would have seen it covers...

First the greatest 2...are said to be the greatest because if you did those....the rest would be inclusive.
Matthew 22:40
national Version
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments

Why read what love is:

1 Corinthians 13:4-8New International Version (NIV)

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

So...if ya love...all the things you mentioned...are inclusive

Yes, salvation is in helping the poor...for part of faith is evidence.........and

Read 1 john 3

19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

We know we know him by what we do...recall what eternal life is:
John 17:3

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

How do we come to know him? Keeping his commands...

So this should take us in to your next thought of being in Christ....
In short I'd say walking in his ways...doing what he did.
John 14:23

Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

So salvtion is by a faith that works through love...Jesus is our salvation....and we show evidence we believe in him.....when we obey....

Corinth 7
1 john
2:7 Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. 16 The old commandment is the word that you have already 17 heard. 2:8 On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you which is true in him 18 and in you, because 19 the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. 20 2:9 The one who says he is in the light but still hates 21 his fellow Christian 22 is still in the darkness. 2:10 The one who loves his fellow Christian 23 resides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. 24 2:11 But the one who hates his fellow Christian 25 is in the darkness, walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 26

There is the law of love...found both in old and new Covenant...
As people get divorces..and contract is void...that doesnt mean in their next marriage...commitment is still not tied into the next marriage contract.
Another words some marriages may have some similar vows....

Therefore love is in the old and new and what Jesus said in Matthew ...still...is for today..
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38This isthe first and great commandment.39And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Love is eternal....the things that are seen are temporary...the things unseen are eternal...

...... instead of destroying the law and prophets....
There is no such thing as destroying the law and the prophets. God's Word stands in the Old Testament and the Old Covenant.

People just cannot see that the New Covenant replaced the Old Covenant. The Old Covenant was always temporary until the Messiah, High Priest came. Even in the Old Testament they were told that the Messiah would give them a new Covenant and a new law.

Yezz...fullfilled by Christ...through his faith and who he is....and we uphold the law by our faith in Christ...the evidence as part of the definition of faith is..works of faith that not only begin with love..but continue to work from love...for thank God he is rich in mercy...and we continually are renewed with life from above...for everything that was created was created by him and for him...let everything that has breath praise the Lord...lift him up...."If I be lifted up from the earth I'll draw all men onto me"....We also in a sense need to lift him up...by doing what he did living as one resurrected...my my my...working out Jesus our salvation...living according to those who have been called out of the dark into the light.....amen! Glory be to God...rejoice...Call on him today! And when you do tell how much you need him....

and we uphold the law by our faith in Christ
I've been in CHRIST for decades, ever since being born again.
ALL thru SCRIPTURE,
I've read how to live by faith, to rely on YHWH all the time, for everything, daily, and to bring everything [thought, word, deed, emotions, feelings, dreams, goals] subject to Y'SHUA MESSIAH and to do what HE SAYS.

I haven't seen any SCRIPTURE, Genesis(Bereshit) thru Revelation,
that
says "we uphold the law by our faith in Christ".

Can you show where this is ?

I've been in CHRIST for decades, ever since being born again.
ALL thru SCRIPTURE,

Romans 3

Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.

Good !
How is it written we uphold the law ? (By breaking it, or by keeping it? There's no other choice.)
FAITH doesn't DO it. and FAITH doesn't nullify it.

We uphold the law by faith in Jesus's finished work where by you recieved his spirit....we uphold it not by what we done...but by Jesus, who was the only one to meet the requirements of the law...He was not only God, the law required perfection. he was obedient to the Father unto the point of death. Thereby we uphold it by faith in his finished work. When we put our trust in him for this....we are able, if we sin by thought, ways, or action to confess our sins..(this is a way of turning to him) ...this is grace... And he will forgive us of all unrighteousness... For God to do what we have no power to do on our own...is grace umerited favor......so then through his atonement and thereby forgiveness of sin we are capable of getting back on our feet to press on toward the Mark...the calling of JeSUS christ.... WHEREIN WE CONTINUE IN love AND BY WALKING IN HIS LOVE put away sin in our lives...everytime we walk in his love in good works, right intended thinking...we uphold the law through faith in Christ.....Not by what we done but faith in what he'S done..THE ATONING SACRIFICE AND RESURRECTION..AND now HE IS OUR ADVOCATE that will plead our case...and if we sin...ask for forgivesness...and made right in the sight of our father God......since the law required perfection...we are perfected in him....that is how we uphold the law through faith. As Abraham believed God and was imputed righteousness..thereby the father of all those who have faith.

We keep the law....by the cleansing..of his blood....God is the one that search the heart and minds and knows all things....our heart has to be clean..and then..it is the law of love that superceeds the law of works..we uphold the law not looking to keep it from the flesh..but from the heart. This is the circumcision not made by hand.

Sorry, no, apparently not.
Opps thought I changed that...meant uphold..and in away do keep it....the whole point is you cannot keep it from the outside ..to the inside..meaning the works of the flesh with our body...cannot make clean the heart...
For those who are in Christ...we carry out the deeds of the law by faith...it is what will naturally start to happen...as we live in Christ...it is God's work in us......... First the heart has to be cleaned...before works of the flesh are carried out.......that...is circumcision of the heart cutting off the flesh being renewed in the spirit....that is also the meaning for "first make the inside of the cup clean then the outside will be clean as well"
Only Jesus can clean up the heart.....we are created IN Christ.....onto good works...

Yes, good. That seems to be missed by a lot of people on this forum who have continually said it is okay to break the law, by inference if not directly.
Some actually say that if someone refuses to run a red light, if they STOP at red lights, (to turn a phrase for comparison) they are condemned because they cannot keep the whole law. (cannot uphold the law).

Well....what you have to see...is..the law is kept from a clean heart...we are no longer under it......and in this...you do not seek it..nor can you seek it in way of works to earn...otherwise you will come off boasting. The Law of love is the higher law...it's kept by faith...and when you love you are no longer under the law...the works of the flesh will work themselves out as you surrender to God...in Christ...read Galatians...

What they mean is..you are no longer under the law....if......If you are in Christ. THE LAW WAS A TUTOR...GUARDIAN UNTIL FAITH...
AND IF YOU SEEK RIGHTEOUSNESS BASED ON WHAT YOU DO RATHER THAN BELIEVING IN Christ...you have fallen from the faith...you are placing yourself under the law which no man could keep because of the weakness of the flesh...and there is only bondage there.....why? Because..scripture tells us if you break one law you broke them all.....there is nothing left under the law for people who were not Christ but death....for there are no sacifices [which were shadows of things to come]that remain..Christ fulfilled the true meaning of animal sacrifices and from henceforth we are to put our trust in him....have faith in his finished work.
Just like...and child learns his a b c's he sounds them out..then blends then learn words then reads..then understands......shall he go back to sounding out the a b c's when he knows how to read....he met the goal of his learning the a b c's.....The law was to teach us that we couldn't be righteous based on our doing. ...it was like a tutor...helping us to come into the knowledge of faith.....so..shall we go back to the law to attain righteousnesd...when the goal was faith? No
