'I'm scared!': Video of Ronald Greene's deadly arrest by Louisiana State Police released
Louisiana state troopers can be seen on a dark roadside stunning, punching and dragging a Black man as he apologizes for leading them on a high-speed chase — body camera video of the moments leading up to the man's death that The Associated Press obtained after authorities refused to release it for two years.
The 2019 arrest outside Monroe, Louisiana, is the subject of a federal civil rights investigation. But unlike other in-custody deaths across the nation where body camera video was released almost immediately, Greene's case has been shrouded in secrecy and accusations of a cover-up.

Louisiana officials have rebuffed repeated calls to release footage and details about what caused the 49-year-old's death. Troopers initially told Greene's family he died on impact after crashing into a tree during the chase. Later, State Police released a one-page statement acknowledging only that Greene struggled with troopers and died on his way to the hospital.

THE INVESTIGATORS: LSP calls release of body camera video in Ronald Greene case ‘premature’
Louisiana State Police say they launched an investigation into Greene’s death the night it happened and turned over their findings to the Union Parish District Attorney’s office nearly a year ago.
“The investigation into the death of Ronald Greene remains under review by federal and state authorities. The premature public release of investigative files and video evidence in this case is not authorized and was not obtained through official sources. LSP is confident in the judicial system and fair review of this incident and continues to offer our full cooperation. Unauthorized release of evidence undermines the investigative process and compromises the fair and impartial outcome for the Greene family, LSP employees, and the community,” a spokesperson for the law enforcement agency said.

They’ve had two years, how long do these investigations take?

I wouldn't want to be a police officer now - so much hatred for them, and unfair scrutiny, and puerile epithets. I applaud those who continue to protect and serve despite the growing racial divide being actively instigated by some against them.

Yeah, let’s all long for the day when cops could have beat a dying man and lied about it with noone questioning them.

It's amazing seeing some of the responses. Lamenting the release of the video or just saying, "I support the police!" All the while ignoring the fact that these police officers first said the man died on impact after crashing his car, then they claimed he was fighting with them. You now have their body cams that show he was beaten, tased and choked while he said he was sorry and scared. He was also dragged on the ground by his ankles after being handcuffed. The fact that people simply ignore the humanity of those who lose their lives to such wanton violence simply because the assailant is a police officer says a lot. It exemplifies why movements like Black Lives Matter exist. There is definitely an attitude that some people's lives don't matter.

"He shouldn't have led them on a chase" will be next.

We all know that's coming. Peacefully surrendering means you should be beaten to death. And after you beat him to death, tell his family he died in a car crash. Then if the video gets out, complain about procedures and ignore the beating.

Yeah, but their founders used the M-word, so therefore everything the movement does, says, and stands for is automatically invalid.

Video Withheld for 2 Years Shows a Black Man's Fatal Arrest As He Pleads for His Life
Louisiana state troopers were captured on body camera video stunning, punching and dragging a Black man as he apologized for leading them on a high-speed chase — footage of the man's last moments alive that The Associated Press obtained after authorities refused to release it for two years.

"I'm your brother! I'm scared! I'm scared!" Ronald Greene can be heard telling the white troopers as the unarmed man is jolted repeatedly with a stun gun before he even gets out of his car along a dark, rural road.

Trooper given 50-hour suspension for turning off body camera, kicking Black man who died in custody
A Louisiana State Trooper who shut off his body camera and kicked a handcuffed Black male, drug him by his leg shackles received a 50-hour suspension according to documents obtained by the WBRZ Investigative Unit. That man, Ronald Greene, died as a result of the encounter.

There is always talk of a few bad apples, but how do things look when in two years, the most you do to a police officer that tortured and killed a man is give him a 50-hour suspension? I don't know, you would think they would terminate and charge such police officers with a crime... but it seems nothing happens.

I was listening to an old podcast with Marcus Jeter. The officers and prosecution in his case almost managed to have him in prison for 5-10 (they offered him a plea deal of 5 yrs.) by hiding evidence, falsifying reports, false testimony, etc. If he hadn't had a sharp attorney who caught that evidence was withheld...

But two of the three cops in his case got prison time.

Yes, I've spoken about Marcus Jeter on this forum several times, he was going to be sent to prison based on the words off the police alone and things only turned around when the video was leaked. The worst part about that video was the officer repeating, as if trained to circumvent scrutiny, "Don't go for my gun!" That way, when they write the report, other officers can write, "I heard my fellow officer tell the suspect to stop reaching for his weapon, the suspect did not comply."

That's what makes attempts in this thread to complain about procedure when there is a video from a 2-year coverup of a man surrendering, only to be beaten, choked, tased and dragged by ankle bracelets while handcuffed. To completely ignore that shows a certain degree of callousness.

Honest question, what was the cause of death? Was it the police actions or was it a result of the accident, hitting something after going in excess of 100 mph has to hurt.
