That's what this is all about. Is it some man (Moses) inventing the creation story as it seems fit to do at the beginning of a religious work or is it God himself giving us some sort of synopsis of the creation? Since this material is far from useful...it seems to fit in as a sort of man-made formality.

Actually, I'm not sure what the point of the description of the creation in Genesis is at all. The information is far from practical.
