I said: If the Papacy were the beast, then why would it survive for 2000 years ? (nothing evil could last that long)
EastCoastRemnant said: Satan is the power behind this entity and he has been perpetrating evil for 6000 years now.
I said: You mean God did allow a heretical church to mislead people for that long (2000 years), while the true Church remained obscured for so long??? You are insulting God.

I said: If the Papacy were the beast, why Hollywood movies only attack the Catholic Church*, not Protestantism ?
EastCoastRemnant said: Maybe the Jews of Hollywood have an axe to grind with the RCC...
I said: Every Christian with some good sense knows that the Hollywood belongs to the Devil. Now would the Devil spend so much money each year just to attack his own subordinates ??? Why would not he rather spend that large amount of money to attack "God's Church" ???

I said: why the beast (what you call the Papacy) would inspire people to do works of love ?
EastCoastRemnant said: "Many will say to me on the day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not do all these wonderful things in your name?' and I will say unto them, depart ye workers of iniquity..."
I said: Mother Teresa, Saint Vincent de Paul, Jeanne Jugan, Saint Mary Mackillop, etc have benefited so many people and brought so many to Christ. They are all workers of iniquity? What right do you have to say so ???

* Such as Da Vinci Code, Stigmata, etc.

Society has been evil much longer. How long something has been around doesn't have anything to do with how evil it is, or how righteous, when speaking in human terms about humans over the last 6000 years.

If you want to know who is evil, you can only find out from the Father in heaven - no one on earth is able to reveal this to you nor to anyone else.

I'd just like to point out that the first person to call the Pope the Antichrist or Beast was Archbishop Arnulf of Rheims speaking of John XV in the 10th century. He disagreed with his policies and his general lack of morals.
Gregory VII and the Papacy in particular was called the Beast by various Medieaval opponents thereof, some Catholic and in fact Churchmen, some heretics. Usually this was regarding issues such as the Investiture Controversy and anti-Popes.
It was a particular favourite of Wycliffe and later Protestants began using it with fervour.

I don't think one can call the papacy in and of itself the Beast, but a specific individual occupying the papal throne is perhaps possible. This all depends on your interpretation of Revelation though, so remains speculation.

If anyone depends on man's interpretation of Genesis, then of course it remains speculation, as man is so inaccurate and unreliable.
Instead, as Jesus taught, completely depend on Yhwh the Creator, Who Himself always knew all things even before anything was ever created.
Depending on Yhwh the Creator, Who Himself always knew all things even before anything was ever created,
and being His children (1 John) , born of Him,
brings a whole true and righteous light upon all things, from Him, as He allows and desires.

I don't think conspiring is the correct word.
This was done a long time ago, and many times, even in the united states. (as far as I know).
How would something they've already done be considered a conspiracy today ?

Soooooo... why isn't Sunday worship mandatory, then?

take it up with the person who made the claim.

EastCoastRemnant said the Papacy is the beast.

But Satanist Adam Daniels is planning a desecration of the Blessed Virgin Mary in August --- that's an attack on the Catholic faith.

Why would Satan fight against his own people ??? This doesn't make sense and makes you totally confused IF you believe the Papacy is the beast.

The truth is: Satan sees the Catholic faith as his enemy. If you think along this line, everything begins to make sense.

A Protestant friend of mine told me I was wrong on the interpretation of "this rock" as in "you are Peter, and on this rock I will
build My Church". Do you know what he reckons ? He told me our Saviour was referring to "Christian teaching". He might be right.

Another Protestant friend had a different interpretation, do you know what it is? It's our Saviour Himself. He might also be right.

Unquestionably, all Catholics believe our Saviour was referring to Saint Peter the Apostle when He mentioned "this rock".

Wow, there are so many different interpretations !!!

In fact, there are 32000+ Protestant denominations -- so there might be hundreds, or even thousands of different interpretations of just 1 single phrase in the Bible !

So who are right ? And who are wrong ? Do you believe our Saviour would desire us to feel confused endlessly and have unceasing arguments ???

It's logical to conclude our Saviour must have appointed someone as His representative on Earth who has the power to interpret the Bible.

Then who would be the Mother of Harlots? Actually the woman who rides the beast is a worldwide system of idolatry under the Antichrist.
So similar to Gomer in Hosea, where Gomer is a personification of an idolatrous Israel?

  • In "Legend of Tarzan," the villainous Captain Léon Rom (Christoph Waltz) uses a rosary as a bizarrely weaponized token.
  • “Road to Perdition” (2002) introduces Tom Hanks’ Irish Catholic hitman packing a rosary and an automatic.
  • In “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” (2007), we are told: every Catholic in England is a potential assassin; a Jesuit priest is an actual assassin; and the villain is a manically devout, rosary-clutching, prayer-muttering, cross-bedecked Philip II of Spain.

These are just some examples of Hollywood's anti-Catholicism. But why does Hollywood hate the Catholic Church?
Is it because the Hollywood belongs to God and the Catholic Church belongs to the Devil? Er...um...hmm...then aren't all those film stars saints???

We all know the answer deep down our hearts.

Some people think the Papacy is evil because so much power is invested in the Popes and down through the ages they have condoned some terrible deeds. Most egregious was the persecution of "heretics" who in most cases were just Christians with a different POV. Under the authority of the Popes, the RCC killed more Christians than the Roman empire.

In the Catholic Church there are many wonderful Christian people - I know, I married one!

I like the movies from the 40's to 70's and in these the Catholic church is always depicted positively - in fact it is quite difficult to ever find Protestant clergy in movies from this period unless they are deranged fanatics.

Things changed when the sexual abuse scandals in the church started becoming public. In fact I think "The Mission" (1986) was the first mainstream movie to criticize the Catholic Church.

"Elizabeth" related the situation that occurred when Pope Pius v condoned her assassination.
