Steven, not appointed, but anointed. There were 3 kings of united Israel, each anointed by a prophet. Saul and David, by Samuel. Solomon, by Nathan. You started out Biblical, then you lost me. What makes you believe the Antichrist must be appointed king of Israel?
The messiah is a special anointed. Technically, there were many anointeds (which means chosen by God for a certain purpose) in Israel's history, and in the bible. Like Cyrus. And the priests. The kings were also anointeds.
But "the" messiah is one special anointed to be the King of Israel, descended from David, to lead Israel and the world into the messianic age of peace and safety.
Once a person knows this, they will understand why the world will be saying peace and safety in 1Thessalonians5 - before being plunged into the beginning years of the Day of the Lord.
"Christ" is basically a greek form of the messiah. John was the first to talk about the Antichrist that was coming, and likening many in his day as being "antichrists", who were denying that Jesus was the messiah, in 1John2:18. Back then, they knew that Antichrist was coming, someone the Jews would embrace as their king - coming in his own name. Another way of saying someone that God did not send to be their king.
It is interesting, coming from John, that also in the gospel of John we have most of the supporting information about the "Anti" a prefix meaning against and instead of - Christ.
First, that Christ = the messiah.
John 5:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
Next, that Jesus was the messiah, coming to be the King of Israel, descended from David.
John 12:12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Are you starting to see it, Steven?
John 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
Pilate....
John 19:15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
Mark 15:
31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

So Christ, the concept is to be the King of Israel, descended from David. "Anti" Christ, actually means someone other than and against - Jesus the Christ, the rightful King of Israel.
It is a big big mistake to refer to the coming person as the Antichrist - at times when he is not in the role of being the King of Israel (illegitimate of course). But...... this is almost universally done.
When you study about this end times arch villain coming, if you would think of him as being on two tracks. One as the King of Israel; that is specific to Israel. Two, as the King of the Roman Empire; that is descended also from the Julio-Claudian family of Caesars. And keep those separate in your mind, as that is how the prophecies are arranged.
Incredibly, in rejecting Jesus as their king, the religious leaders had said "....The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar." The person will be a Jew of course, has to be, but will also be descended from the Caesars.
The confirmation of the covenant for 7 years in Daniel 9:27, will be by the person when he enters into the role of being the illegitimate King of Israel, Antichrist.
Mose made as requirement in Deuteronomy 31:9-13, that all future leaders of Israel confirm the Mt. Sinai covenant on a 7 years shmita cycle, on the feast of tabernacles.
So acting as the King of Israel, the person will make a big speech from the temple mount that God gave the children of Israel, the land of Israel, as theirs forever.
And the false perceived messianic age of peace and safety will begin.
Later on, 3 years 3 months, thereabouts, the perceived King of Israel, will shatter that illusion of peace and safety, by stopping the daily sacrifice, going into the temple, sitting, claiming to be God. Which will essentially end his time as being the Antichrist, illegitimate King of Israel, because the Jews are going to reject him as continuing as their King.
He not long afterward, will be killed and come back to life as the beast. Don't call him the Antichrist, at that point. He is the beast, a function of being the King of the Roman Empire, the 8th king of the Julio-Claudians, having started out as the little horn, the 7th king of the Julio-Claudians.
In Revelation 17:10, the five fallen, the sixth, and the coming seventh, all related...
1. Julius Caesar
2. Augustus Caesar
3. Tiberius
4. Caligula
5. Claudius
6. Nero
7. the end time little horn
8. the beast
Antichrist - a function of being King of Israel.
little horn, then the beast - a function of being King of the Roman Empire. In the ends times, the EU, in its final form.
He will come up among the ten kings (leaders) of the fourth empire, the Roman Empire in Daniel 7:23-25, the EU in its final form, as the little horn.
Then after going through his Antichrist stint, following Gog/Magog, and then becoming the beast, the ten kings will commit the EU to him for that last 42 months in Revelation 13. That is why the ten horns have their crowns in that chapter, is that they will rule with the person after he has become the beast.
The person is alive right now as we speak.
