  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Judging by your own posts, you yourself are against the majority of Syrians. You're against Syrian rebels supported by the US, you're against the Kurds, you're against Syrian Arabs who support the government, which is a majority of the population.

I'm not against the Kurds in general. I am against the YPG and affiliates for allying with the regime against the rebels. I'm against policies that tell rebels they can only fight against ISIS and not Assad. I'm against targeting of rebel groups, particularly when the regime is completely ignored. I'm against anyone who supports the regime which is definitely not the majority of the population.

The majority of the population is comprised of Sunnis. Anyone who thinks the majority supports the regime in its genocide against the majority (i.e. Sunnis) is deluded.

Maybe you actually support the plight of the civilians in the areas held by those extremists, but we don't know, since you have never shown any concern for the plight of civilians in the rest of Syria's war zones.

Oh, the plight of the civilians in the areas held by extremists isn't as bad as the plight of the civilians under rebel-held territory since the extremists use barrel bombs, cluster munitions, chemical weapons, and incendiary bombs indiscriminately against the civilians in the rebel areas to the extent that they have killed ~200k civilians (~96% of the documented civilian casualties). The rebels, on the other hand, have collectively killed ~3.4k of the documented civilians (~2% of the documented civilian casualties). It is the civilians in rebel-held areas, not the extremist-held areas, who are being starved to death by the extremists (i.e regime) besieging them.

Do you see the Ramouseh area above? The rebels are now in control of most of it. Getting closer and closer to breaking the siege! With little meaningful international help from most countries. Truly Allaah is with the believers. Here is what allowed them to gain more of Ramouseh:

Massive! "Fawj al-Awwal (FSA) crushing the Assadists with the #tunnelbomb in al-Ramousah" found by @Abdullahazam245

The regime supply route to West Aleppo has been cut militarily though the siege has not been broken as yet.

Rebels saying this is the biggest offensive yet and will be a turning point for the conflict. Apparently there are more surprises in store for the regime that they will not be expecting. The regime has been blindsided by this and does not know what to do or where to attack because of the opening up of so many fronts.

These guys yell Allahu Akbar all the time. Hearing them yell that doesn't really mean much by itself.

Are you referring to the last video I posted? It's true that Muslims say "Allaahu Akbar" for everything, but the way it was called is different - it was much longer, was called from the mosque (loudspeakers), and part of it is what we may say on 'Eid day. To those in besieged Aleppo, they took it as an announcement of good news.

Also the brief look I've done indicates that the rebels are not on the verge of some kind of huge victory.

Morale is very high among the rebels and the civilians in opposition territory. They have surpassed their own expectations of the progress in the short time they began the offensive. They were confident in breaking the siege (still to be done) but didn't anticipate taking so much land in such little time. It took the regime ~2 years, with attacks intensified last month, to besiege eastern Aleppo and it took the rebels a couple of days to regain key locations. Here are the observations of some of those who have been watching the Syrian conflict closely:

Military campaign to break the siege of #Aleppo goes as planned so far. Final push expected any day now.

Rumors that this new #Aleppo offensive would be the biggest of the #Syrian war so far are turning out to be true as we speak

a group of rag-tag Syrian Rebels are pushing back 1000s of Iraqi, Lebanese, Afghan and Iranian Shiite militias (with Russian air support)

An interview with a commander from one of the rebel groups (Ahrar ash-Sham) who talks about the victories in a short amount of time as well as the silence of the international community:

Children from Madaya (besieged) thank the kids from the besieged portion of Aleppo (who were among those who set tires on fire) and they pray for the rebels' victory

Kids in Aleppo burning the clothes in their backs to help the rebels in Aleppo

This tyre shop in Idlib donated its supply of tyres to the people of Aleppo so that Assad/Russia can't bomb them.

But some of the people on this thread would have you believe that these people are forced or intimidated to support the rebels and that the civilians don't actually think the rebels liberating them is liberation.

"The most striking pictures over the last days were the ones of children burning tires in the streets of Aleppo to create a smokescreen against attacking Russian and Assad regime’s warplanes. While civilians - and even rebels - inside Aleppo are incapable of launching any attack to break the siege, they showed that they still didn’t give up and did not surrender to the genocidal regime that tries to kill them all. Instead, they put their trust and hope - all they have left after being ignored by the world for years - in those rebel forces, trying to break the siege of Aleppo from outside - outnumbered and outgunned by the regime troops and their allies on the ground and in the air."

Lessons from the besieged people of Aleppo

Besieged #Aleppo even in hard situation & without access to food, people don't leave kindness aside. Cats being fed.

Not just the wheels. also Blankets & mattresses.. This is the Anti aircraft in #aleppo2016 #AleppoVictory

The rebels are in phase 3 of the offensive (and I believe the last phase). Apparently they are in control of (most of?) the Artillery College (check map in first quote below)!! This is huge news because it contains, according to one source, ~2 years worth of weapons which is why the regime is trying to keep it at all costs. Fighting is still ongoing; Hezbollah has launched a counteroffensive.

It looks like the rebels might break the siege today. Amazing, uplifting news. All praises belong to Him, Who is enough for the believers even if almost the entire world is against them as they seem to be in Syria.

Opposition gains

In addition to controlling all/most of the Artillery College, they are also fighting for total control of Ramouseh. I read that those from inside eastern Aleppo (besieged) are fighting from their side as well.

#Syria: Opposition #JaF announce the start of battle to control Regime-held part of #Ramouseh area, which may end up breaking #Aleppo siege.

BREAKING. The siege of E. #Aleppo is now over. Rebels from outside met with those inside the city.

#Aleppo Siege lifted

All praises belong to Him. I cannot express how elated and proud I am. A bunch of people with inferior weapons went up against airstrikes and multiple countries and won a strategic battle while other countries merely expressed "deep concern" over Assad's tactics time and time again. Children went against world superpowers and literally burned rubber. They. Won. Allaah is Greater.

Food finally enters besieged east Aleppo after more than 30 days! No thanks to Obama!

Afraa Hashen and her volunteers at the Free Food Kitchen in Aleppo (MEE/Zouhir al-Shimale)

“The security situation was deteriorating rapidly and things were going from bad to worse in the city,” Hashen said. “The shelling was unstoppable and was raining down on us every day. But we refused to give up and we kept working no matter the difficulties.”

“The people who funded this project were almost all women,” said Hashen. “Some came to cook, others made donations. Some even sold their jewellery just so they could give us a little bit of money. They have so little left, but they all said that this was a high priority for them.”

....Riam Hassan, a 45-year-old mother of three, said she has never been so happy to see bread and vegetables fill market shelves. “I am just ecstatic,” Hassan told Middle East Eye shortly after filling her food basket. “I have not seen even the most basic food in the last month and had nothing left to feed my family."

“Finally I feel a small sense of hope returning and feel like life might be possible again. I can barely afford to live in Aleppo but I was born here and will die here. I have endured so much but I can take even more bombing – the only thing I cannot take is leaving my home.”

“I know that if I keep fighting, even in my own small way, things will eventually get better. “If we all keep working together, the situation will one day go back to how it was."
