• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

they can from Rome's POV. if an EO parish was willing to commune them (although that would excommunicate and defrock the priest).

yeah, what St Paul said. you are taking the fire of Divinity inside of yourself. if you are not prepared (reception in an Orthodox Church, recent confession and fasting prior), you commune condemnation unto yourself.

Thank You! :)

I REALLY hope no one would be disrespectful to the sacred mysteries.

Since the hierarchs of our church do not share the same faith with Rome we cannot commune. Personally I am willing to believe that the Eucharist is truly taken among both of us within our respective communions. That being said, we do not see things eye to eye on all matters of faith & to haphazardly partake & commune could be mortally dangerous to both of us. In all love of Christ to Catholics & all respect.

Yes, but, certain principles cut across all areas of life. One of them is the fact that while our feelings are valid, they do not nor cannot dictate reality, that is the case in our interpersonal relationships, and in our relationship with God (using your words, "theology")

As you know, living a fragmented dichotomous lives is not healthy.

@Christiancounseling, maybe its because you don't listen? You should know how to do that since you claim to be a counselor.

You are also not here to learn but to try to convince us that we are wrong, when you stated things that were wrong and we corrected you, you insisted that you were still right and that we were still wrong.

I wouldn't go to you for counseling!

(BTW I have a BA in psychology and have developed behavior modification programs for children with Autism, while I've never been a counselor in practice, I do know the methods and are familiar with the principles and regulations of counseling)

Excellent podcast on the matter. Fr. Thomas Hopko was spot on..

The second one was good as well:

And for others:

Additionally, I Found this from one of the ministries I follow and thought it had some good points:

Much of the discussion happening here seems similar to other discussions that have occurred before on the boards - such as places like Orthodoxy is Roman Catholic or Returning to the Orthodox faith? and The primacy of the Bishop of Rome as succesor of Saint Peter. ..or Mehmed the Conqueror and Gennadius II and several other places like the following:

Some of it gets interesting when considering the many within Oriental Catholicism who have practices that are neither Eastern or Roman - and thus, in a world of their own on many levels (as is the case with the Chaldean Catholics and others who often get forgotten whenever the discussions on Eastern Catholics come up and it seems there is a lot of generalization occurring which ignores nuance).

<< Staff Edit >>

If the discussion was taken to St. Justin Martyr's Corner: Debate an Orthodox Christian, that'd be better than more of what has occurred here with the open comments against Eastern Orthodoxy from the author of the OP - it doesn't really help to represent the cause of others who are Eastern Catholics..
