  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

But he doesn't consistently espouse racist views. He has publicly denounced the KKK, white supremacists, and neo-nazis. I saw him do it in a speech.
Yes, Trump read from the script that was provided. And then he told us what he really thinks, and what he really thinks is that he considers some Nazis and KKK members to be, in Trump's words, "very fine people."

As I said earlier, I don't see how you can discuss issues where race and/or racism is part of the issue, and one of the politicians, in this case Trump, regularly espouses racist views, without talking about the politician in question.

That isn't what happened. The Charlottesville riots took place during a demonstration to protest pulling down a statue of Robert E. Lee. Donald was stating there were good people on both sides of the issue of pulling down confederate statues.

“If he actually started acting like a good President” was an insulting remark.
But truth. As I said, if you want to talk about issues, then we can leave politicians out of it. If you want an opinion about a politician, I will be truthful.

Truth? So YOU get to pass judgment on the president?

That isn't what happened.
Actually that is exactly what happened.

You can read about in many places from many sources. It was very big news at the time, with many people from various government positions resigning to protest Trump's racist comments. That you can't find this information, or are unwilling to believe it happened, does not change the reality of the situation. Trump has made numerous other racist comments, for instance about a judge being incapable of being unbiased because he was of Latino heritage. Just google Trump and racism and you will find many examples, both past and present.

So, to stick with the topic of the thread, how can you discuss an issue which in part deals with race and/or racism, where one of the politicians involved in the issue espouses racist views (such as Trump has done on numerous occasions), without relating the issue to the politician's racist statements/beliefs?

Yes, the mainstream media doesn't tell you the whole story.

We should discuss the topic of the thread.

Reiterating, how can you discuss an issue which in part deals with race and/or racism, where one of the politicians involved in the issue espouses racist views, without relating the issue to the politician's racist statements/beliefs? For example when discussing Trump's proposals for immigration, when Trump has made numerous racist comments about some immigrants, and his policies clearly reflect this racism?

If you want to use a different example of a politician using racism and racist statements, feel free to do so.
The topic of my thread is to challenge people to discuss issues without attacking politicians.

And I am saying I do not think that is possible when race and racism are part of the issue, and the politician espousing the issue repeatedly makes racist statements. I used Trump as an example, but we could use someone else as an example if you prefer, say David Duke?

I think the accusations of racism are false.

We are called to judge the people's actions that we interact with, but that is not the same as passing judgment. Trump is a scum ball but I have no clue what judgment he will face before God. I pray for him, that God may humble him and that he may change and find humility and compassion for all people because he is no better than the least person on Earth.

No, we aren't. Sometimes we have to make judgments, but you need to learn to treat people respectfully whether you like them or not.

What racist statements?
How can you not know about this?

Please google "Ryan Trump racist comment". There are numerous sources, including actual video, of Trump making racist remarks, and of Ryan stating that those remarks are the very definition of a racist comment.

I'm surprised you didn't know about this, but it explains a lot. At least now you do know that Trump has a history of making racist remarks, so we can get back to the thread topic, and my reply to it:

Do you think it's possible?

I've always believed respect must be earned. Trump has earned the opposite.

Matthew 7:16 By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Hebrews 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, for those whose faculties are trained by practice to discern good and evil.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 Test everything; retain what is good. 22 Refrain from every kind of evil.

Liberals constantly accuse Donald of racism, but I'm not seeing any. Even the latest storm - the Democrats want to add to DACA people who came to our country temporarily because of hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and the like, and won't leave, even after ten or twenty years. Donald gets mad, allegedly uses a word he shouldn't use (beginning with "s") and now the liberals call him a racist again.

I repeat, you need to learn to treat people with respect. You can disagree with a person respectfully.
