It actually is.

The Catholic Church is alot more objective and skeptical of such matters than alot of people give Her credit for.

Ha, good one. If I was in the business of selling cars, would you want me to be the only one who tests them for safety? Or would you want an outside opinion?

The Church wants miracles to happen so people don't lose faith. So they can grant them whenever they want. Nobody is following them around making sure they aren't lying.

Oh, I dunno.

I'm sure the white-coats will come running with their clipboards the minute someone shouts, 'Shroud of Turin!'

(I'm glad they do, too.)

Typically scientists usually have something better to do than to debunk Catholic miracles (most of which are completely un-debunkable...how can you debunk that a statue of Mary cried for 5 minutes on a Sunday 50 years ago?)

I'll respectfully withhold comment, so as to keep from annoying my Catholic siblings.

The Catholic church and faith is based on the same myths as all of the others, pie in the sky.

Oooooo, very good, like I've never heard that before. ^_^

Ha, good one. If I was in the business of selling cars, would you want me to be the only one who tests them for safety? Or would you want an outside opinion?

These questions don't really make sense to me, really, within the context of this conversation. It is the practice of the Church to try to disprove and be skeptical of such things to ensure that they are authentic. Further, even if the Church deems something as "worthy of belief," there are some non-Catholics (as I explain more below) who try disprove and explain away such things. I will also point out, as in the case below, just because the Church has declared X to be "worthy of belief," you're not required to believe it was.

The Church wants miracles to happen so people don't lose faith.

False.

So they can grant them whenever they want.

Again, false, there have been numerous claims of "miracles," that the Church hasn't accepted officially or won't accept period.

Nobody is following them around making sure they aren't lying.

There have been non-Catholics and such whom have tried to disprove events that the Church has accepted officially as miraculous and other such things. For example the miracle of Our Lady of Fatima, the Church has said that this miracle is worthy of belief after a canonical enquiry. But there have been some outside of the Church that have tried to explain this event scientifically which the theories have ranged from UFOs, didn't happen at all, stratospheric dust, ESP, mass hallucination, Jerusalem syndrome, parhelion and other such "scientific," explanations.

I'm sure there is loads of people trying to disprove the beliefs of the Church and what not. Or "make sure they are lying."

This is pretty naive. The Catholic church "skeptically" inquiring? ^_^

How do you know? How about this:
1) Church needs congregation
2) Congregation needs reason to believe
3) Church supplies miracles
4) Congregation buys it, pays tithe
5) Vatican City buys new fancy robes for the Bishops

Again, false, there have been numerous claims of "miracles," that the Church hasn't accepted officially or won't accept period.

Well yeah. You can't just accept every miracle. You have to make it look like you're being selective and skeptical about the process.

The fact that you put UFOs and ESP in with the "scientific" explanations makes me think you don't know how to use the word "scientific".

Lots of weird stuff happen in this universe. Saying "Goddidit" never gets us really far, does it?

I'm sure there is loads of people trying to disprove the beliefs of the Church and what not. Or "make sure they are lying."

The Catholic Church is pretty easy to criticize, so I'll lay off. Too easy of a target.

Chapter and verse?! We have videos of it!!
So cartoons constitute a big part of your reality. OK. However, Moses and Elijah were actually seen and the record was left. No Flintstones cartoon, or even Bugs Bunny on Easter morning could change that.

I'm sure you have but you having heard it doesn't make it any the less true, ALL religions are based on myths that's why they need faith to believe in them, they are called myths because they can not be shown to be true.

The Muppet's among us will now say that they also can not be shown to be untrue, no more than the FSM can or any other religions god you don't happen to believe in.

I'll see if my buddy -- our resident expert on myths -- chimes in here and corrects this.

In the meantime, if I were to sponsor a search for the Loch Ness Monster, and overheard someone on the team say this, he would find himself rowing back to shore.

You know, all that bluster would be a lot more impressive if you would go on to sponsor this search, or any search at all, instead of retreating to your "X can take a hike" mantra.

"Buddy," AV, or simply someone so devoted to truth that they're willing to put up with you in order to undo the damage you cause to it?

In any case, they're called myths not because they can't be shown to be true, but because it does not matter if they are true or not.

Seaching requires effort, effort implies the possibility of failure, and failure is a humbling experience.

That's incorrect. Regardless, no it doesn't matter if the Loch Ness is true or not since intelligent design can be ascertained from the plethora of systems currently available.

given the OVERWHELMING evidence for an old earth and evolution why do you consitently ignore it? why do you get your points refuted over and over and over but never listen? why don't you do some research? why do you belive things that come from a site such as AIG when they reject any science that would destroy their beliefs? why why why? is your faith really that weak? are you afraid of science? as someone's signature on here says, if your faith is affected by science that is weak faith. now why are you guys so closed minded? why? i want answers.

I have studied geochronology for 35 years. I am still a YEC.

Do you know what is geochronology? Are you going to tell me anything new?

Make your question sound more humble. so I might consider to answer it.

Hey, AV, you tricked me again. I got to be more careful.

But, bless you.
