They don't [necessarily] ignore it; they either outright disagree with it, or they allow someone who does to be their spokesman.
They may not have a proper understanding of the refutation, or they may assume God knows exactly what He's doing; or both.
They may take your word on what you're saying, but the point is moot, since God has the information [to the contrary] you seek.
God will sort it out in the end, assuming it's important enough to do so.

Now that their faith has been tested in the fires of Bunsen burners, it's even better.
No -- they respect science, but not in the way mundane scientists do.
It depends on how it is affected.
Science turns some Christians into Theistic Evolutionists; for others, science is ... well ... science.
They only appear closed-minded, because that is how faith makes them look.
When you close your mind from one direction, you open it to another.
