I also remember the need for a UHF antenna (for any station after 12, I believe); that was usually where many of the "independent" TV stations were found that had a lot of underrated, interesting programming.

Here is song all about it!

Says the video's not available. It's because I'm Canadian, isn't it?! :p

I grew up in the county, and it was mostly in the 1980's but we were poor. We had a black and white TV for the longest time because it was used and cheap. I was given a TV for my bedroom, and it was also black and white. We didn't have cable and satellite dishes were new and costly for my family. We only had an antenna, and it only picked up three-four channels, which weren't always clear.

Same exact story here. Except our hand me down TV was color. Which reminds me, I asked my son to bring me the remote the other day and he bellyached about it. I told him “when I was your age, I WAS the remote”

Me, too! One time my father called me from the other end of the house when I was laying down at night to come turn the TV up for him. I got in a lot of trouble because I had a bad attitude about it.

we don't have, either ^

husband put antennae on roof; I refuse to pay for free tv
we get a decent amt of channels for free, anywhere from 46-55 depending on the weather and how many picked up when doing a scan for channels

as long as abc and a kid's channel comes in, we're happy
husband is not a tv watcher; it's like pulling teeth to get him to watch anything with us

only bad part is, since everything went to digital, we can't record anything anymore as VCR won't work with digital tv

My son thought that I grew up in the days before color photos and TV. I started having the boys watch shows from when I was growing up. They were surprised that the technology and way of life wasn't that much different than it is now, and they really love some of the shows I did.

It’s tge same equivalent as us watching shows from the 50s. Let that sink in

You still have a VCR? :)

VCR gone lol
(meant we couldn't record with one anymore)

BUT
the one old tv actually plays old VHS tapes and DVDs
it's in our bedroom and kid uses it to watch strawberry shortcake or little pet shop rentals from library

another old, tiny tv still plays with rabbit ears!
we got 2 converter boxes with digital changeover

couple year ago husband got me a newer skinny tv for my b'day so didn't have to watch the tiny tv anymore lol but, kid does as the kid station come in on it
sometimes we watch kid shows tog on newer tv but I can only watch so much Sandra, the fairy tale detective

We have a couple of VHS tapes, but not VCR. For a long time we had combo VCR and DVD machine.

I have held off on getting a blue ray player, kicking and screaming. But our DVD player quit working, so I'll probably end up replacing with a blue ray player. We have a ton of DVD's, and only recently got a few a Blue Ray disc. My son has Play Station 4, and he uses it to watch the Blue Rays. He is moving away this week, and he's taking the PlayStation with him.

best wishes; I'm sure you'll miss him

we don't have blue ray player; luckily drug store where we rent movies has more non blue ray than blue ray for rentals
