After helping me move all my books to my new place, my friends want to get me one for my birthday :D Do your eyes get tired after using it?

No, not at all, it's like reading a real piece of paper, the technology is truly amazing, in a few years it will be only thing people read.

My only complaint is that you need light to read just like with a book, the screen has no back-light, but still amazing.

You should be able to select a white text/black background display that you can read even at night without light.

If anyone wants to try this, there are Kindle apps for computers and phones. I just installed the Kindle app for Windows, and wow, it is tempting to be able to download books from Amazon immediately.

My mom has a Kindle (birthday present) and a Nook (she bought for some reason only she understands). So far she has purchased a whopping ZERO books on it. If I'd given her that present I would be unhappy to say the least.
I have a Nextbook, which is a multimedia device that has ebook reader and purchaser as well. It came with a twenty-seven free books already on it, classics ranging from Bram Stoker to Dostoevsky to Tolstoy to Mark Twain. ( < staff edit > )

I have a Kindle and LOVE it! I have a cover with a light so that I can read when I can't sleep. I have found a treasure of free books, classics! I had a brief subscription to Reader's Digest, which was kinda ok. I had some difficulty knowing what section i was in, but as far as the articles, it was good. I especially like the dictionary feature. I have used the voice command, but, it's an electronic voice, so, it's so-so. I have listened to books on tape, so, it's kinda hard to listen to an electronic type of voice, lol!

Overall, I am glad I got the Kindle, got it for Christmas, the base model, 3g. fit's my needs.

Electronic books or ebooks have only been out for four years now but last year they had a 200% increase in purchases. Ebooks actually outsold paper books last year, that's pretty amazing considering what a short time they have been out. I have written four books and all are available in the Kindle format. They are a different kind of action/adventure books taking place in the Caribbean starting in the year 1614.

Felipe Montoya, an honest fisherman is falsely accused of piracy just for the bounty as many were back then. His father is killed during the arrest and he is imprisoned. Killing a guard and making his escape, he and his Uncle Andres swear revenge on the king's men and become pirates. They free slaves by killing their masters to be their crew and become the most devoted friends. You can see the real characters at my website which should be in my profile, as the characters are actually based on friends of mine. Or you can see the characters and books by googling "The Pirates Cove weebly."

I'm loving my Kindle. Easy on my eyes and I purchased the case that has a light built in that really helps with low light reading.

Me too. Got one this summer as an early birthday gift. I love it. I tried reading on my iPhone, but let's face it: The LCD screens on iPhones and iPads and the like aren't easy enough on the eyes - nor do their batteries last long enough.

Is there a feature on the Kindle that allows you to take notes or underline or anything like that?

Oh yes. And what you underline is automatically copied to a separate file so you can quickly access your highlights without having to find it again in the book it's from.
And notes, too of course.

My only regret is that I don't have the 3G version :(
