And how about eternal torment just because you didn’t believe? On a fairness level that seems worse yet, and either way there’s an obligation placed upon us. The obligation to believe or else suffer eternally or the obligation to finally be righteous, as we come to believe, or else suffer eternally.
There’s a bigger picture to it all though. God is saying that, ‘Unless you choose love, embracing good over evil, you will exist eternally without it, without Me. But I’m patient, I work on showing you the reality and the beauty and necessity of love, drawing you towards it, towards Me, and give you every chance to accept.
And then I’ll judge you fairly, by your heart, knowing your history and every reason why you might find it more difficult to embrace the light than not. But I won’t force goodness upon you. If you prefer darkness, if you prefer cold, selfish pride over humble self-giving love, I’ll ultimately let you have what you want, which is existence without it, apart from Me.
But come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. I stand knocking at your door. Open it.'
