How old is the world?

They are not birds by the modern definiition. But they are animals of flight as in the Hebrew sense that they are winged creatures with lungs. Of course they are not birds in terms of modern taxonomy (sp?) and Planets are not stars either, but in the language of the day the word star means any twinkling heavenly body, just as meteorites are called "falling stars."
Rightio.

So this is one example where a plain reading of scripture is inaccurate. What should the correct translation be, then? Why were bats enumerated among the "fowl of the air" when the Bible was translated into English?

look at this thread.
can you imagine the lack of work if everytime an engineer or a scientist tried to do some work if everyone began discussing the theology of the measurements etc?

that is one reason why the supernatural was banned from science.
utility.

no one seems to be able to agree on anything with respect to the supernatural
evidence-->this thread.

....
We talk about the theology of measurements when we look at the size of the Ark, 515 feet long. This depends on the size of the Cubit. For a discussion of this matter visit the Worldwideflood.com

It is the Bible that tells us about Jesus. How can you worship Jesus without knowing him based on Scripture? Believing the Scripture is what Christians do. Call it idolatry if you will but it is the Scriptures that tell us about Jesus.
I believe in the scripture. I do not claim to know the true nature of God. In doing so and claiming your interpretation of scripture is the only correct one, you are practicing idolatry.

Of course you do put yourself above Jesus when you reject the plain sense in which He took Genesis and how he treated Adam and Eve as literal persons. What you are doing is idolizing "science" and your own fallible and finite mind. Repent of your idolatries and believe the Scripture.
Nice try with the whole projecting thing.

Nice evasion. That's not really a plain reading, now is it?

No I do not. The Earth says it's billions of years old.

Jesus did not write the Bible. I believe He made the Earth. Put two and two together.

Ok, so Jesus says it is 6000, Moses says it is 6000. You declare that the earth says it is billions of years old. Who will we I believe. . . . Decisions decisions. Will it be Jesus the Word of God, or will it be L'anatra? I think I will choose Jesus who wrote the Bible through the men that HE inspired infallibly. Put two and two together.

Yes, you do.

Once again, Jesus is the Word of God.

Hubris is overbearing pride and presumption.

His. That is not arrogance, it is vehemence. Your perception is flawed.

Nobody's huffing and puffing but you. :)

You are arrogant because you assume you have a monopoly on absolute truth. That is arrogance, otherwise known as unwarranted self-importance.

I do believe Him. I just don't believe your version of Him... your version that accepts Bible idolatry.

No I do not deny Science. I deny your version of science that accepts Science Idolatry. Jesus is the Word of God? How do you know that? Where did you get that idea? You get it from the INSPIRED SCRIPTURES, and as the Word of God Jesus told us how to take Genesis. Jesus is the source of Truth and He is himself the Truth and he authored the Bible.

now what a minute! if we read it literally they are falling stars! they aren't meteroites then. THEY ARE FALLING STARS! planets aren't stars but if we read literally they are "stars". BY GOSH EVERYONE I BELIEVE WE HAVE A HYPOCRITE!

I am not judging your character. I am providing an assessment of the gaping flaws in your arguments.

No, you are judging my character, calling me smug, arrogant, and full of hubris. Beside the rest of the opponents complain that I am not providing arguements, but you find arguements and then you say they have flaws.

6000 years is what is declared by the Word of God, the inspired Scriptures authored by Jesus, the Eternal Logos, who himself is the one who made Adam and Eve out of the dust of the earth, and who crushed the head of the serpent that had talked in the Garden of Eden.

If you can't see the fallacies of logic in your own arguments yourself, I can do no more to point them out to you.

Now this is a character judgment: your inability to learn is rather disheartening, though not surprising, and I feel sorry for anyone you've exposed to your dogma. Humility was one of the most important virtues Christ taught, a virtue you truly seem to know nothing about. The people in this forum will soon see through the self-righteous facade with which you've attempted to protect yourself. In fact, I suspect many of them already have.

I'm sorry, Floodnut. Not because I think what I have to say is important, but rather because I figure you won't consider it at all.

No, I've told you, I was not judging your character. The words you were using displayed smugness, arrogance, and hubris. Whether those traits can be applied to your character I don't presume to know.

EDIT: Granted, it could be perceived as if I've been making character judgments in this thread. You'll have to trust that I wasn't.

In any case, your arguments have considerable flaws. Circular logic, for one, is the most obvious of them all.

floodnut you do reject any scientific evidence and this quote right here has told me exactly how arrogant you really are. stop the arrogance, you are not making many friends.

I responded in kind to one who pretends to be quite knowledgable. Jesus wrote the Bible and if the poster is not aware of that he/she has no basis to talk about how to rightly take Jesus. Saying that Jesus is infallible is not arrogance. Saying "DON'T YOU KNOW ANYTHING?" was a playful response to pompus arrogance.

Which is why the Bible has cultural bias (permission for slavery), I'm sure Jesus wants you to own slaves, I think I'll go buy me some right now!

You're one idiotic post away from my ignore list, thanks for the laugh.

Jesus taught slaves to be meek and humble and not to rebell. Paul taught slave owners to treat their slaves as Brothers and that we are all equal -bond and free. It is Christians and their proclamation of the truth of God that finally ended slavery in America, although it was the Christians of England that had to lead the way.

The whole point of that post was to tell you that in English (in terms of breathing) inspire means to breathe in.

In no way can inspire mean to breathe out. Notice the prefix "in"? Inspire = breath in, expire = breathe out. (Inhale & exhale, in other words. The prefixes are identical).

Perhaps now you can stop claiming that God's inspired word is identical in meaning to God's breathed out word.

The text says the Scripture is "breathed out by God." Perhaps now you can go look it up and see that this is the case. Theologians still use the term Inspiration to refer to the Scriptures as being breathed out by God. In anycase, whichever term makes you feel groovy, the Book is infallible and it is from God. I am not sure what you are looking at but the term is theopneustos.

thats it, im moving into a cave. im done with society! weeeee!

True science is not evil, but any interpretation of "science" that goes against the truth of Scripture is evil. God's word is infallible and accurate in all that it affirms.

the bible was never ever meant to be a science book. they didn't know the things we do now. please stop making it into a science book.
what about the universe flood nut? why did it take one day to make the universe but 5 days to make earth and everything when the universe is far more complex than earth is.

The Bible is not a science book, but when it speaks on history and science it is accurate and infallible. God knew more than we know now when he told us explicity how he created the earth. In six days God made all things, visible and invisble. No matter how vast and complex it is, and earth is a minute speck in the whole of the universe, the simple truth is that GOD SPOKE AND IT WAS. The amazing thing is that it took as long as six days, when all He had to to do was speak.

do you think new planets could be formed or new stars or new anything in the universe? space is oh so beautiful and interesting. or do you believe God is not creating anymore. just a question

New mountains can be formed and new canyons, and new flowers and new babies. I don't know why new stars and planets could not be formed as well, coming out of already existing materials.

don't know about the particular english translation, it simply means flying airbreating animals. I don't believe modern taxonomy is inspired and infallible.
