  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I feel as though I have been a practicing Christian for almost a year now, but a person who has helped me along the journey told me that if I were saved, I would know the exact hour minute second of my salvation. For me this is a difficult concept, because I feel as though my life has changed considerably since I began reading/comprehending the Bible and various other Christian instructive books and I feel the Holy Spirit flowing through me all of the time. But I never "noted" the exact moment, through prayer or any action, that I have been "saved" Is the concept of salvation different for everyone, because even on this website you are given the option to type in the date of your salvation. I'm an introverted person so I can't imagine myself breaking down crying or speaking in tongues at the moment of salvation. Basically I am confused about this concept of time.

Everyone has a different experiance of salvation. Put all your faith in Christ and you will be saved. Look at the bible verse in Mark that talks about if you ask God for anything, and with faith it will happen, it will be surley given to you. Why not ask for God to put your name in the book of life? Then believe with all your heart, and trust Christ's payment for your sins, and you are saved at that very moment. Remember that when you are praying, forgive those you are holding a grude against, and anything you ask, God will give.

Greetings all.
This thread is very close to my heart. I began attending church almost a month ago after my uncle "twisted my arm". It was meant to be...because I feel now as if I truly have something to live for! I have been praying and reading the bible since then...but feel false in doing so, like I'm a hypocrite :sigh:.
I truly want to change my life and become closer to God. I DO BELIEVE, but feel like I'm just saying it and not really believing it. Most of you talk about how when you were saved it was an instantaneous transformation. I would love for that to happen with me, as I have seen first hand how happy christians are...because God is working through them.
If there is anyone with advice for me I would REALLY appreciate it!I am tired of feeling empty and know that when God's spirit fills me I will be living the life I am meant to live.

God bless you all!

Hey conflicted

as your brother in Christ, I have a Christ-like love for you. I want you to understand that YOU are not the one to change YOUR life - Jesus is. By being a christian, you can lay down your worries and problems and put them on Jesus (on the cross).

Only Jesus Christ can truly change your life.

I am very happy that you want to seek God, reading the Bible and praying - it will lead you to Him. I hope that you are able to share christian community with other christians, at your church preferably. Take the time to sit down and talk about your faith, with other strong christians or a pastor or priest.

the only thing you can do it to stay open to God with your heart, and await Him to touch you and change your life.

this is the special thing about christianity:

in other faiths and religions, the humans have to do certain things (good works) to please a "god" or spirit etc.
in christianity, GOD is the center. as humans we are hopelessly lost, we cannot deserve salvation. God does the work for us, through His Son Jesus - that died for us on the cross, and rose from the dead - :)

God did it, we are only meant to accept it through faith

may God bless you in your walk with Christ brother, and may the Holy Spirit fill you everyday and teach you the ways of God through the Bible..

your brother in Christ

Hi Magnus

Thank you for your encouraging words. They truly mean a lot to me! I realise now that I was not saved when I made that post, however...I am now. I have put my testimony up on the board :) I feel much better now than I did then...even though I know I still have a VERY long way to go.
I feel like a new person. The only trouble I am having now is getting rid of the habits from my previous life and replacing them with new habits ( like reading my bible, praying etc.) It is difficult, but I know I will get there.

Thanks again for your post.

May God Bless you for your kind words and concern :)

That's silly, not everyone knows the exact date of their salvation....Speaking in tongues? What are you talking about. Who says most people speak in tongues when they are saved. As a matter of fact, their not suppose to be speaking in tongues to people unless there are others their who can translate, and it is in private. The people that give their dates of salvation are just saying that at that moment they gave their life to Christ...and asked Him to be their Savior, that's all. And if you do this and from your heart truely meant it, then Jesus Christ promise that you will be Saved, and given the Holy Spirit....don't sweat it....just pray that you are saved through you're belief in Christ...and have faith...if you don't get it right the first time, it's okay you can ask Jesus again.....I've asked Jesus to be my Savior more than, I think, ten times...that's because when I first did it, I didn't know what I was doing, didn't really mean it from my heart, or didn't take it seriously....However, you should be serious about it...ask God to lead you and ask Him to help you find Him...in whatever you need, God is a prayer away...he hears you even if you're not saved....he hears everything.....in your heart you must believe and accept Jesus as your Savior...He knows if it isn't true....people cry because it's a big deal...here they are truely turning their lives to Christ, and letting Him be their Savior, this is a very emotional moment.....no longer are they going to follow the world, but they are going to follow Christ....this is a difficult path, but it is the only path...and when walking with Christ, we are walking against the whole world...and they will hate us, because they hated Jesus first....we must pick up our cross and follow Him everyday. This is big...bigger than your wedding, your first child, this is bigger than life...it is a choice for all eternity....and if you do this in your heart, of course it will effect you, so it has effect people in different ways...some people get filled with the Holy Spirit, and they speak to God (tongues). Speaking in tongues is for praising to God, not anyone else. So make sure that you know your choice, and study the Word of God and pray to Him all the time...He will guide you to understand if you ask Him.

Did you really accept Jesus to be your Savior? Hint: If you don't know, or you're not sure, then the answer is "no." How can you ask Jesus to be your Savior, and not be sure of it. Be 110% sure!

The important thing, for what ever method that brought you to Jesus for salvation, is your relationship with God. If you relationship with God is strong, you won't have many doubts.

I believe that Salvation is a stepping stone. God didn't save you just so you can go to heaven, He saved you to comform you into the image of Christ and that you will learn to love God and love you neighbor as yourself.

Put it this way. Suppose your parents gave you a brand new car. You are so happy and thankful to your parents for giving you such a wonderful gift. But what are you going to do with it? Are you just going to park it in the garage and cover it up with a cloth, never driving it? Of course not, you are going to want to drive it around and show all your friends. Your want to experience what it's like to drive your vehicle.

Shouldn't your salvation be the same way? Go experience the God of your salvation. Go and tell your friends the goodness of God. Show them how God is working in your life. God wants to take you places you've never been. Let Him be salvation not just for the forgiveness of your sins, but for the restoration of your life. He is a Father to His children who have been born-again into His family. And like a father, he so much wants to know you and be a friend to you. And He wants you to know Him through the experiences of your life in Him.
Dondi...what an amazing post!! I like how you compare it to a new car. I find that when people give examples like that it allows people to better understand. That is how I get people to understand things as well.
Being recently re-born, I find your post very relevant, because one of the things I find is that (I wouldn't say embarassed) I don't want to 'preach' to unbelievers...because I was one until recently and don't want to seem like a hypocrit.

Thank you ever so much for your post.
God Bless :)

There is nothing to it. Trust Jesus and let the Holy Spirit work in you.

That's good !
Because speaking in tongues is not the sign of being saved.
Keeping all the 10 commandments as found in Exodus 20:3-17 is the evidence of being one with Jesus Christ......
1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Yes, it's true that SOME people recognize (or think they recognize) the moment in which they were saved. I believe I do.. But that doesnt mean anything. There is no formula to salvation other than you accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior. Not everyone is the same or will have the same experiences. Please do not compare yourself to others..Keep your eyes on Jesus.. Remember Peter when he stepped out on faith and walked on water. He was only able to walk on water because he was keeping his eye on Jesus, but the second he looked away, he began to sink. .. use this as an example.. Keep your eyes on Christ, dont look around and start comparing because you'll start to sink. You can "walk on water" as long as you keep your eyes stayed on Christ.
