Been gone all weekend but wanted to get my 2 cts in on this. Everything has a perfection of their own. There's a perfection for dogs, cats, whatever-and there's a perfect way to be human. These perfections have simply to do with the way God created these beings to be, while only God is perfection, itself, of course. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus isn't asking us to be all-perfect as God is, rather He's telling us we must be perfectly who we are-in the same manner as He is perfect in who He is. JMO"Be ye perfect ..." is in the future tense, ie be becoming perfect.
As God "is perfect", thus be becoming conformed to the image and likeness of God toward completion.
