"Be ye perfect ..." is in the future tense, ie be becoming perfect.

As God "is perfect", thus be becoming conformed to the image and likeness of God toward completion.
Been gone all weekend but wanted to get my 2 cts in on this. Everything has a perfection of their own. There's a perfection for dogs, cats, whatever-and there's a perfect way to be human. These perfections have simply to do with the way God created these beings to be, while only God is perfection, itself, of course. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus isn't asking us to be all-perfect as God is, rather He's telling us we must be perfectly who we are-in the same manner as He is perfect in who He is. JMO

Can we delve into this a little bit more? For what is also written is that our "imprefections" are the very things that separated us from God. That is why we needed/need a Saviour....let's delve into this some more :)

In looking at the topic of holiness, I decided to do a search (yes a Google search) and I came across this *shocking* article:

Can Christians Live Without Sin

This is news to me (especially the original sin part)! But at the same time, I DO believe we can be holy (not sinning) if we are truly His.

does being "ho;y" mean "not sinning"?

Holiness is being like Jesus, not living in sin, not loving the world more than God. Not thinking we are self righteous, not judging one another, not doing that which God says is bad, always forgiving each other, its humble, its loving, its doing righteousness, its doing whatever Jesus did. And its not condemning ourselves either but living in faith and resting in grace. That's my opinion.

Obeying God isn't always easy, no one promised it would be a piece of cake. But to love God more than life itself and all its temptations, now that is being an overcomer! (where's that thumbs-up emoticon when I need it??)

LOL!

Indeed, however, i remember a time when i became discouraged cuz i thought "holiness" meant being perfect....

thus the desire to delve into this more :)

My desire is to be perfectED, obey Him how I already know to do. Why? Because I love Him, I want my life to be all about Him, my attitudes and my day to day routine even.

And you know what? I do get discouraged when I sin because I know it's not what I was supposed to do. There's nothing wrong with good conviction as long as it pushes me towards Him, not away from Him. That's the difference between ungodly shame and godly conviction.

Hahaha thought you'd never ask.....

it's David and the splendid inexplicable example of why God called him the "apple of His eye"...David sinned horrendously....yet, he did something that is very dear to God's heart......
