Brothers and fellow shooters. I have this gun I purchased. It was on my bucket list - had to have it. It’s got a bent bolt that is over an inch high under the scope. So I figured it all out; and it’s a strange configuration. Like something I would do. But to the center of the scope is over two inches. First shot was about two feet high. I adjust the scope down 12 inches, all it would go, still 8-10 inches high. Used shim under front ring not much effect. Bought a shorter front ring and I’m hoping.

What am I not seeing, is it possible for it to shoot to point of aim. It’s for sale thinking it can’t be done. 6.5x57 Mauser on GI.
Want to keep it if I can. Last gun, ca implements a 11% excise tax on July 1. I need help.

I am not a gun guy (don't own any), but I am a physics guy. Can you give me the muzzle velocity in feet or meter per second, and the distance to the target (with maybe the height of the center of the target, and height of the barrel above the ground)? I can try to run a calculation to determine how many feet the bullet will drop due to gravity. Maybe the barrel is bent slightly by a fraction of a millimeter or something. For reference, I used to live in a small town, where a lot of people hunted, so I care about people who hunt, as hunting gets people food. :)

Trajectory explained. Notice how a parabola (arc) is made.

Come to think of it I never boresighted. But I don’t know how to answer your question. Target height and height of gun vary, so does ammo. Online you can find ballistics for this caliber and trajectory. I think it’s all in the scope. Vortex even said so. Your mount has to be in the ball park. Maybe somebody knows a trick. With a shorter ring it’s not going to sit in rings smoothly. What do you think of that crazy riser @AlexB23 ?

I know nothing about guns (as I am better at sciences and stuff), so I am not sure about the anatomy of guns, besides stock, barrel, trigger, scope and safety. So, what does the riser do?

So, I feel that you might want to take the gun to a ballistics or gunsmith expert, and he/she can help you align the parts on the gun in a way to allow for better targeting, and even help align your scope. Not sure about cost, but if you can eat the cost, take it to the gunsmith. He/she can help you with the projectile trajectory and scope much better than a 24 year old man who knows a bit about projectile motion. Make sure the gunsmith has a 4 star rating or above on Google reviews, and is ideally a small business.

The riser is in the second picture of first post attached to scope. I hope I don’t need a gunsmith. Watch “cap and ball” on YouTube. Hes cool and from Hungary.

I might try him out, but I do not want my YouTube algorithm to become all gun related. So, the riser helps with the scope somehow? How much money would you have to shell out, to get your gun parts aligned?

Ooh, Hungary is so close to where I was born. The straight line distance between Hungary and Bulgaria is ~400 miles (650 km) from the center of each country.

I thought you were a Romani. Your algorithm will change back.

in my case the riser lifts the scope higher over the bolt handle.

i ruled out a gunsmith because of price (85$ hr) but might not take too long to ramp those rings.

I am Romani, but do not follow their culture. I am Bulgarian, adopted into the US, and have Romani descent (according to Ancestry DNA). Whew, $85/hr is very pricey. So, this riser is for ergonomics, from what I can gather. Well, hopefully you can ramp the scope somehow. If worse comes to worse, you might be able to install a laser onto this thing, and use the laser to aim at the target, though, that requires alignment also, if I am not mistaken.

Just checked out Cap & Ball (Hungarian YouTuber). He used a beautiful 1800s rifle from Hungary known as a Schutzen. Never heard of it, but it looks like a work of art. Even though I will never be into owning guns in my life, I appreciate design and engineering, and this gun is so beautiful.

19th century Hungarian muzzle Schutzen [Age Disclaimer: 13+, due to use of firearm]

I tried to make it go back to top of threads.
Cool. I am not familiar with all the forum jargon and stuff. Anyways, my help here is done, as I am not a gun expert, but hopefully, people more knowledgeable in sights and guns can help you. :) I thought the power of math and projectile physics could help, but this is more of a sight alignment question, not a bent barrel.

@Wings like Eagles or @Tuur , can you help a fellow brother out, and help @Unqualified fix his gun, so that his scope is aligned better?

Thanks, I’m working on it. But could sure use some input.

You are welcome. For myself, I can not give any more input, but the others that I have mentioned could help give a lot more input compared to a young man who does not own a single firearm, and grew up in a non-firearm household. Who knows, in a few weeks, your gun could be ready (once repaired) for more target practice, or getting you some tasty turkeys or deer.

Worst case scenario, have you ever asked artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT or another AI about the issue with your gun?

That interesting! How do I do that?

Or Perplexity AI, which can search the internet, and compile the answer in a response: https://www.perplexity.ai/

Just copy and paste your OP into the lower text box, and omit any extraneous info such as "hello brothers and sisters", and the AI will try the best to answer your question. And yes, AI is interesting stuff. Don't rely on it for everything though.

Gee, that was swell. So I joined perplexity, not sure about the other one. It’s a quick search and conclusions and got it straight in my mind, about sighting it in. Now it’s up to my scope to have enough adjustment. Which it may not. I put a shorter ring on the front to get me in the ball park. Going to take it to the range today and see. If this doesn’t work I’m a hafta sell it. Thanks for all your assistance and providing AI, and being a sound board. Even without knowledge you helped me. using AI makes me feel young and not rigid and hip. You’re all right.

it’s kinda lonely though using AI and not getting human help. A friendly one might be all a kid would need and then stay isolated, and grow up alone. Anyway…. It got 207 views. I guess no one could help. The answer to this question seems trustworthy.
