The Roman Catholic church teaches that holding membership in Freemasonry is a grave sin. If you are not Catholic, there are plenty of other resources one can read to learn why Freemasonry and Christianity are not compatible.

Any Christian bookstore I've been in has had books on why Freemasonry is inconsistent with walking with Christ.

The basic thing is that in masonary and other so called secret societies you take oaths that bind you to putting that organization first. This is incompatible with putting God first.

Many such societies, and Masonary is one, actually have religious or quasireligious ceremonies as well. A lot of member just take them as nothing but they are basically religious in form and so people consider then as a religion that is not Christian.

You also have in Masonary that a religious book is used in the local chapters, it could be the Bible, but it also could be for instance the Quran. Masonary would not care. So it ends up teaching Universalism. That whether you are Muslim or Christian or whatever it really doesn't matter as long as you recognize a supreme being of some kind or the other, the important thing as far as they are concerned is that you are a Mason.

A lot of the leaders of the United States have been Masons or belonged to other related groups. It can be very confusing because they can talk and sound quite Christian yet have quite incompatible beliefs.

Should say:

Eastern Orthodox Church (Of which the Russian Church is an autocephalic National/Regional Church). IOW, all Orthodox Churches reject Masonry.

The Knights Templar is said to be the original source of the Masons. The Masons are a "boys" club of sorts, one can only join if invited. Masonary does not worship Satan per'se but is open to all religious attitudes. If you want to specify one particular area of worship within them a better statement would be that they worship money and power. To join one must leave at least a 1/3 of their possessions to the order at death.

There are absolutely no direct lines with christianity. As with most things people use guises to make something seem more acceptable and in the "christian" oriented past statements of christian belief may have been used, but as I wrote before they now have a tolerant attitude towards religious belief again to subscribe to current ideals.
