Thanks for the article, Dark. I read it, and I'm afraid it left me just as confused as before. The person who wrote it doesn't seem to lay out their argument very convincingly or clearly. He even goes so far as to say that when his wife covered her head, he stopped having nightmares, because when the angels see a woman's head covered, they know she's a Christian and they will protect her. That, to me, is borderline ridiculous, because plenty of NON Christians cover their heads all the time.

Another point to be noted is that the passage in Corinthians says a woman should cover her head to PRAY or PROPHESY. Not that it should be covered 24/7. It seems to hint that leaving her long, luscious locks uncovered will bring "glory" to her instead of all the glory going to God. This seems nonsensical to me...a lot of women have nappy, ugly hair...some of them don't have any hair...some guys have better hair than the ladies - wouldn't they be taking "glory" away from God if they had awesome hair, too?

And to see all these colorful, fancy hats and head coverings...those things are prettier than just plain old hair, IMO. Isn't that stealing the glory even further?

This whole thing is just weird and confusing to me. And it seems like, if it were SUCH a big deal, it would be mentioned in more places in God's Word, or Christian women would be feeling conviction or direction to cover up, or something.

I personally think a woman wearing a head covering, especially one of the hats you displayed is a very sophisticated look whether its for religious reasons or not. My mum is in her late 60's and when they attended church in Scotland the men removed their hats and all the women and girls wore them. Same thing in America many years ago. I remember women at the church I grew up in wearing them when I was a child.

I own some hats and love wearing them. Again, not necessarily for religious reasons, but even outside church I think its a great look. I wouldnt assume it was for religion but I would probably just think to myself "She looks nice."

Not to mention I think its very sexy to leave some things to the imagination.

Frankly, I think people looked awesome in Biblical days, when they were covered from neck to ankles.

If the guys went for the robed look again, I would too.

I so love the coverings of the Tudor and Dark Ages in Europe much better! My personal fav is the French Hood. So modest and yet, dare I say so sexy! Lookee!

It's really only within the last 50 or 60 years or so that Christian women have not worn coverings. Tertulian, St. Agustine, Calvin, Luther and other greats of The Holy Faith have all written on it and I hope you got get to read them. I'll see if I can find a good site. I love the coverings! They are addictive. I was on a similar thread months ago and another Christian lady told me that she thought that hats and such were fine, but she thought the covering should be more distictive. I personally think all you need is a covered head. I don't think it really matters. I love Muslim style but I think I look dorky and I am absolutely convinced that Muslim women have hijab tying genes, because I can't do them right for my life! ^_^

I'm really 'weird' about having things on my head. I hate wearing hats, and even though I have long hair, it's always in a ponytail cause I hate feeling anything on my ears/face/neck. I think I'd go berserk with a head covering lol. I might be able to stand a yarmulke, lol.

Isn't it interesting that both Jewish men and women cover their heads? Same in Biblical times; it wasn't just the women.

I LOVE THE YARMULKE CAT! How cute! I'm so saving that pic!
Hey, check ot this site. It's a Jewish lady who makes beautiful covers and has yarmulks (kippahs) for ladies!

LOL Anne Boylen? Interesting choice. She was beheaded for being a witch, and a heretic ^_^ (Not to mention incest. All of which were untrue Henry just wanted to get rid of her)

...I'm just sayin

But yeah, the head pieces? Awesome

My mom grew up in the late 50's and 60's and she has told me that there was a time , at least in our part of this country, that a woman DID NOT go to church unless she was wearing a hat and gloves. And she has pictures to prove it. But she looked like Jackie Kennedy rather than a cult memeber. It was part of the everyday fashion of the time.

i'm a black woman. when i cover my hair (usually because i'm in between styles -- i do the jennifer lopez kind of covering mostly), i'm just assumed to be muslim. muslims themselves start treating me differently. one time i even got kicked on a bus when i walked in. i looked at the white guy. he glared at me then tried to pass it off as an accident. racism rears its ugly head. head coverings are not any sort of advertisement for christianity when they're on me.

This reminds me of when I was in 5th grade. It was raining one morning at school and we couldn't go to our regular classroom yet, because of a leak or something. They made us go to the stage area on the other side of the building. Anyway, they made us sit along the wall on the floor. I was sitting there talking to my friend on the right, and a black kid came along from the left and tripped on my foot. I guess my legs were stretched out rather than bent up like most people there. But no one told us how to sit. Then he brought a teacher over and claimed I did it on purpose. I may have been clumsy but I was not a racist.

I honestly don't know what your incident on the bus was like. But your story made me think of that incident, which I had not thought about in many years.

 TOTALLY FEELING YOU HERE! I have been treated so badly because people have thought I was Muslim. Even Muslims! I can be wearing the most non-Muslim complient thing.....and that just doesn't stop them! It's a real travesty. Once I was wearing Persian style and this guy was so nasty to me I almost cried. And I was wearing a cross, which no Muslim ever does! :doh:It's a shame, but people are going to see what's on your head before what's in your heart!

To help ya'll understand the difference between the kind I wear a Muslim styles, watch this. Even though Persian style as I like to call it is worn by Muslims in Persia, it's really considered "bad hijab" and girls can actually get arrested for it. I encourage you to read about the girls in Persia. They are really rebelling!

i didn't trip over his foot walking in. he was sitting on a chair, feet to the ground -- like everyone else. that's where they're supposed to be so when one of them gets planted high on my shin and i see him glaring at me, it was deliberate.
