  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw a video last night about the 'roots' of Halloween and the way it is practiced, by some, today.

I would have to say without hesitation, this is a religious festival that is evil. And should be avoided by all, not just Christians. On this video, there was an interview with a former Satanist, he described the rituals that are preformed on this night.

Not to mention its roots in paganism and witchcraft. Things expressily forbidden by God.

I dont believe it should be celebrated in any form by Christians!! It should be a night of prayer; to combat the evil being celebrated this night.

PEACE IN CHRIST!!!

*Sigh* whats wrong with you people? Halloween is like christmas, its true meaning has been thrown away and become commercialized. There is nothing wrong with halloween, you basically dress up and go get some candy. Its a fun holiday for the kids and you get some great treats. Heck, if you want to, you can call halloween "all saints day" since thats what the church tried to do.

While I understand the pagan origins of Christmas, it is hardly the same thing. Christmas has been, baptized, if you will into one of the most important Christian holidays. It celebrates the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. We need not remember what Christmas used to be; anymore then the Lord remembers me how I used to be.

Halloween is very different. I am not talking about the American commercialized version of Halloween. I am talking about the religions implications of the holiday. There is absolutely nothing Christian about this holiday, in fact just the opposite. Whereas, Christians hold Easter and Christmas to be the two most important of our Christian holidays. Satanist/Pagans/and Witches (I know they are not the same!!!) hold this day to be of special significance.

It is a religious festival of unholy proportions.

PEACE IN CHRIST!!!

Which video was this exactly, and who was it produced by? Most claims like that are bogus in my experience.

Common people, halloween is just a fun day for kids to dress up and get candy.

Are you going to stop celibrating Christmas and Easter, because of it's pagan roots?

Halloween was given a Christain meaning btw. People just forget that.

I dont view halloween as a celebration of another god. As a kid, I never viewed it like that. My mom, whos a christian, doesnt even view it like that. We all view it as a day where we can dress up as something and go get some candy. Its fun, was a great experience for me, and we didnt have any god celebrating rituals at all. If you must view halloween as something, atleast view it as all saints day. Go dress up and get candy in celebration of the saints.

Yeah, many things like this, are often bogus, like SRAs and stuff. However, if christians are into dropping things because of their "evil" origins, may I suggest throwing away all crosses. :)

The video is called: "Halloween, trick or treat?" and it is produced by the Calvary Chapel; Word for today. It is hosted by Pastor Chuck Smith.

There are far more "ex-Satanists" than there ever were real Satanists. If this guy takes his stories from Mike Warnke, Bill Schneobelen, or the whole SRA fallacy, as most of these ex-Satanist frauds do he wouldn't know his butt from a hellhole in the ground.
LOL..funny. Im not up on my Satanist guys, um. But I do recognize this guy..Bill Schneobelen. I do not know what the SRA fallacy is either; if you dont mind schoolin' me a bit. Thanks

From what I understand the only ritual most Satanists have for Halloween night is drinking way too much.

OTOH we Witches take Samhain quite seriously. It is one of our most important festivals. Of course we don't do anything more heinous than some drumming and dancing but....

And that is my point. I understand that we are on opposite sides of the fence here; but if you could peek to my side for a moment-Do you not see something wrong with Christians co-celebrating Samhain/Halloween?

If I were a Christian I wouldn't. Not because of any "evil" but simply because it's the holy day of another religion. Then again I wouldn't celebrate Christmas, Easter, Michaelmas etc either.

Christians are forbidden to celebrate other religions holidays, that doesn't mean they have to villify them though.

But it's nice that you can ask us about it.
