I hope you don't mind me babbling about charcoal for a moment Didaskalos. I just wanted to say that i just checked and it was successful. I do have charcoal.

I made about 20 dollars worth of charcoal in about 2 to 3 hours. I used my new homemade rocket stove that i built out of a steel trashcan and some stove pipe. It didn't take much wood fuel either. Awesome. Praise the Lord. Its funny how something so simple can be so fun, and useful as well.

Rocket stove.... hardcore dude. My son has one, but has also just got a new grill that has a small heat powered generator that powers a fan that blows air through the stove... kind of like a forge. He says it works great.
I have seen people build rocket stoves on youtube and it looks easy. I wondered about building a rocket stove powered wood gasification system:
Rocket stove cooks the wood which produces gas which in turn powers a gas burning electric generator that runs our electric back-scratcher. Modern conveniences are cool.

I meant that i was making the charcoal today. I built the stove yesterday. I actually started the build the day before yesterday, but finished it yesterday. When i posted about the charcoal, the burn was already finished, but i didn't open it yet to see if it made charcoal because i was waiting for it to cool down. After i posted i was curious so i went out and looked.

Basically a gasifyer is a rocket stove but its a little different.They both produce and burn wood gas. I dont know if the regular rocket stove design would work or not, but its an interesting idea. I have done a lot of gasifier design research online and i do plan on building one sometime. I saw one guy use his stove to forge metal, not sure how well it worked because it wasnt detailed, but it appeared to work. I have thought about using a gasifier to heat a gas forge, but im unsure if it would work, and not sure what kind of burner would be used. I dont know if it could use a gas orifice or not. It would be very cool if it would work though because it would be like using charcoal only much better. Yes, a backscratcher, i need one of those.

I wouldt be able to charge more than 50 cents a pound i think, because it only costs a dollar in the store. At least thats what i would charge if i was selling it, but im not.

Didaskalos, i was thinking about your Rocketstove/gasifyier idea and it occurred to me that this would eliminate the need for a shaker grate which normal gasifiers need. It would be a lot more maintenance free because you could just allow the ashes to fall by themselves as apposes to needing to shake the grate periodically. If it worked you would have a very popular idea because i haven't seen anyone do anything like that yet. I'll need to meditate on this idea more, it does seem interesting.
