Ordered 12 cans of Yoders Bacon today. $180 bucks.
Good for 10 years... or so they say. We will rotate it out in 5.
600 slices of cooked bacon. 30 cents a slice... worth it I say.

The delivery of bacon and peaches was delayed by Matthew. We evacuated from Beaufort SC to Lexington where our son and daughter in law live. Cannot even go back until Tuesday (planned). Hope to beat the packages back to the house, which we assume is in good shape after the storm. Lights are not on, but the hospital has power restored and it is just down the street. Luckily the college will not open before Wednesday so we are in good shape.
Thinking of the food we lost in the freezer.
We had to leave within hours of the evacuation notification so it was a true "bug out" situation. A good trial run.

Look at some good deals at Emergency Essentials. A black Friday sale. Some stuff 50-70% off. We never buy full price... always wait for the sale to come.

Put back 48 rolls of T paper today. On sale for 5 bucks for 12 rolls. Other than the obvious use, it will be good for barter. Plan on putting up a couple hundred more this year. A forgotten but important stock.

We opened some rice we packed away in 2012 (Mylar + oxygen absorber). 7 pound pack. Looked great, smelled great, cooked great. Cannot tell the difference between it and fresh new rice.
Success. I know our 5 year preps are ok and fully eatable.

Been busy with our prepping the last couple weeks.
Bought 6 cans of stew veggies with potates.
Bought 6 cans of seasoned beef crumbles.
Bought 50 taco been MRIs.
Bought a can of white chicken meat - free can of yoders bacon!
Put back several containers of cocoa.
Added about 10 more pounds of pasta and 12 pounds of oats.
Repackaging and inventorying a bunch of 5 year old buckets of rice, beans, sugar, pasta, etc. We have more than I remember buying. About 1800 pounds of preps.
Feeling good about our food stores. Not so good about our water... which currently is limited to a dozen or so 2 liter bottles. We also have quite a bit of non-food items like toilet paper, soap, detergent, etc stored out in the garage.
If the stuff never hits the fan, our kids will inherit a bunch of good stuff here!

Been on a prepping slump the last couple months. We are heading toward full retirement later this summer and are working toward that end (beginning?) Once we get things straight we will be back in business. We are actually drawing from the preps and testing some things we put away 5 years ago and longer. We have yet to find any spoilage which gives us confidence that our prepping is in good shape!

Got another 8 cans of ground beef today. $50 bucks for 12 pounds of meat pre cooked(little or no fat in the can) and good for years. Good deal. If and when stuff hits the fan, meat will skyrocket if you can get it at all. I suspect shortly $4 a pound for lean ground beef will be a sale.

Bought a 50 pound bag of potato flakes a couple years ago. Into mylar with a O2 absorber!
We ran out of mashed potato flakes in the pantry yesterday so instead of running to the store, we pulled out one of the mylar bags and sniped it open. About 2 years. I forgot to write the date. But they were as nice as the day we prepped them. Made some great mashed potatoes to go with a roast chicken. Barb made some amish sweet bread and rolls.
A feast!
