Windmill said:Well, thats what I mean, where do the morals come from? Every single commandment is reinforced in the new testemant, even the sabbath one.
Cliff2 said:Just for a moment we live in a world where the ten commandments have been done away with, some would say nailed to the cross.
What is going to stop me from stealing etc?
Nothing at all.
So you're saying that what christ taught shows whats sin and whats not?JustinWindsor said:
There are plenty of moral lessons throughout the word of God to point us toward moral behaviour. In fact, in the New Testament Jesus pointed us to a much higher standard than the Old. He said that adultery took place even if you lust after a woman, apart from the actual act. He said that even if we anger or hate, it is if we have committed murder. He had two reasons for these teachings. One, to show us that God's standards of righteousness are very high indeed and without Him we can do nothing good, ...and two, to point us toward a godly attitude of heart, rather than just following a set of rules.
What you've suggested is antinomianism. The belief that if Christ paid for all our sins then we can sin all the more. Paul says clearly "May it never be" and the apostolic moral teachings of the New Testament, stand alongside the moral lessons of the OT to witness to us the value of pursuing a godly lifestyle.
May God Bless

For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you
Luke 4:16
He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read.
Jesus set us an example, why not follow it.
It was His custom to go and worship on the Sabbath.
Cliff2 said:We also see that it was the custom of Paul to go to Church on the Sabbath, the 7th day of the week.
If we were to do the same today we would be in good company
Oblio said:I suppose so, if your ministry, as was St. Paul's, is to convert the lost Jews to Christianity.
The Gentiles also came on the Sabbath.
Oblio said:Of course they did, for that was when St. Paul was converting the Jews and the synagogues were open for business. If he were converting Muslims, they would have come on a Friday.
Cliff2 said:Paul or anyone today can hold an evangelistic meeting on any day of the week. That has nothing to with what day the Sabbath is.
But is says it was the custom for Paul to go into the church and preach. It does not say that is was his custom to that on the first day of the week but it was on the Sabbath.
Paul or anyone today can hold an evangelistic meeting on any day of the week.
Oblio said:I suppose he could, but the only one he would reach would be the night watchman and a few mice. I think it makes a bit more sense for him to go when there were actually people present.
Jesus did away with the legalism in the keeping of the Sabbath. That does not mean we can keep it anyway we like. Follow what is said in Ex. 20:8-11.

If we are free from the legalism of keeping the Sabbath then why doe you say we need to go to the Law to see how to keep the Sabbath???????
Yours in Christ
