In his new book, "Building a Bridge," Father James Martin fails to mention Catholic organizations trying to help homosexuals live their lives according to Church teaching. However, he does speak approvingly of New Ways Ministry, which has been condemned by both the Vatican and U.S. bishops. Is he causing confusion within the Church?

"Pretty much everyone's lifestyle is sinful," Fr. James Martin told the New York Times.

Continued below.
No, not every lifestyle is sinful

The way to expose this for what it is, is to change the sin. Change it to a sin which is culturally unacceptable in the west, and he wouldn't be singing the same tune.

Would he be "building a bridge" toward racists? Would he be trying to minimize their sin by saying, "Pretty much everyone's lifestyle is sinful," if he were talking about racism?

I truly wish that so many would wake up to the fact that GOD is wiser than us all.
This being unequally yoke together has not won the gays to Christ.
quite the opposite has occurred. Instaed of keeping the pattern of JESUS
who would CORRECT
years back it became just hug em to win them.
Well HOW has that worked out . DID the church win them to CHRIST
OR. , was the church won to them. Many SUPPORT it now.
SEE why I say GOD is wiser than us all. HE KNEW and KNOWS
that if we are unequally yoked we fall away..
Now define insanity. Doing the same thing over and over expecting
a different result ..

to live in accordance with the teachings of Christ. “It was appropriate to welcome people to come and pray and call them who they were,” he said. “And later on, we can talk.”

This is a smoke screen that if allowed will allow activist groups to create a foothold within the flock from which they will then push for change by aggressive tactics.

Good point.

Knowing them, he would say that homosexuals don't make negative remarks or aggressive actions against others. So no, he wouldn't minimize racism, even in that case.

I know that he wouldn't minimize racism. My point is, he's being inconsistent when he doesn't.

And this is why they are dangerous. I would rather people like him reject Catholicism than try to poison it from the inside. Hopefully he changes his ways before it is too late because God will judge him more strictly than anybody who he has deceived.

Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. (James 3:1)

Why does not the church leadership reign in James Martin?
As a Jesuit, his Jesuit provincial is the one to do so. If his Jesuit provincial will not do it then the head of the Jesuits would be the next in command. The head of the Jesuits, however is talking about how we need to discern away what Jesus said on moral issues. Fr. Martin would probably get an 'attaboy'.

Your ordinary bishop doesn't have the authority to rein in Fr. Martin, but could only deny faculties within his diocese and deny the use of diocesan property for him to speak at. But then he can go to the next diocese over and see if he can get away with it there. Or just not bother to use any diocesan property. A bishop can't stop him. Nor would many dare to do so. He's a friend of the pope, seemingly.

Pope Francis really blew it by appointing him to the Vatican's Secretariate for Communications. Martin wrote a nice book back in 2006 (My Life With The Saints) but has since gone off the deep end.
