I have a question regarding this, and please don't view it as an attack - I seriously would like to hear your reasons because I really do wonder myself. That having been said...

Why doesn't the name change bother you? Erwin stated that the reason for the change was to get more people here who would've felt otherwise "threatened" by the term "Christian." That statement says outright that the name Chrisitian has a negative taint in his mind and that he'd rather gather new people than represent Christianity. He'd rather disown the name of God just to get more hits on the site. Why doesn't that bother you? It's basically saying, "Lord, I know you've done so much for me, but I need to hide my affiliation with you until after I've gotten people into my site, and THEN I can spring it on them." God doesnt want us to hide our affiliation with him (see my sig). The right thing to do is to openly display who we are and the God we represent and then trust in God to bring more people here as he has been doing for so long already.

So why doesn't the name change bother you?

Again, please don't take this as an attack - I know a lot of people on this thread seem to think that anything that disagrees with Erwin is some kind of malicious attack, and I hope you don't feel that way. I'm just looking for an honest answer to the question that no one who agrees with the name change has really addressed yet.

I guess I didn't present myself as clear as I'd hoped. My apologies there. (And thank you fore reiterating it isn't an attack, I likely wouldn't have taken it that way, but it does my heart good to see that people DO want honest discussion and we aren't all still in "the heat of the moment". :) )

The name change DOES bother me, but it bothers me less than the brief window when it was still called CF, but had the new vision in place. That struck me as a larger misrepresentation of what Christianity should be, I guess.

While holding out hope, until the FAQ thread posted a few pages back, I never really expected a return to the pre 07/07/07 vision/mission. I see changing the name as the lesser of 2 evils, I guess.

I like neither, but this way, it devolves to the individual person to be Christ, as opposed to a site called "Christian Forums" that has no definition of Christian, no real (read consistent) rules of conduct. It's more up front about the lack of Christ-centered ness.

Is that any more clearer? :)

By the way, thanks again for seeking clarification. Good dialog has been somewhat scarce around here lately, and this give me hope in the membership. :)

OK, that makes more sense. To be honest, I wasn't aware of the July reforms until all of this happened (most times I go straight to either the gamer forum or the authors board) and when I finally did hear about them I was just as disgusted. I guess since I learned about it all at once, I lump all of the changes into one huge problem, rather than two separate incidents that have taken the board downhill.

I understand your thinking now, though I'd still like to get an answer from Erwin on that one.

Thanks for clearing it up!

What is a Christian according to this site. Simply follow this official CF>F link:

Be a Christian

And yet he wants to allow anyone who wants to call themselves Christian to do so, even ones who do not agree with that link. This will set up the problems I mentioned in my earlier post a few pages back that I really don't feel like typing out again.

But with Erwin's statement that he doesn't feel like he can make a decision on what makes someone a Christian, how long do you think that will be up there? And how many baby Christians walk in here and are given absolutely anti-biblical worldview information by someone with a Christian Icon, and are left with the idea that "well, that must be right"? Yes, we're told to test against the scriptures, but how many new Christians really know how to do that? How many "Mature" Christians really know how to do that?

Totally understandable, and that's one of the big problems with how this all happened. it seems like 95% of the site membership knew nothing about this, including some mods. That's just bad site management and stweardship, all faith aside.

The question is whether the Be a Christian link will be declared un-WIKI and be replaced with THIS.

I have been an outspoken opponent of the changes of 777, that is true. I would like to recommend to Erwin that he not try to post some list of Christian principles. In the past you have made statements such as "as long as I am webmaster. (insert statement here) I hope that he has learned the problem with making such statements. Even though I think he was sincere in these statements it caused a great deal of turmoil when he decided that he changed his mind about them. If he makes a list of "Christian" principles what happens if he again decides to change these? Another group of individuals persons who count on him keeping his word disappointed in him not doing so.

I will state uncategorically that I do not believe that Erwin lied about any of this. I do certainly understand however why people feel betrayed. I personally think that the 777 changes were nothing but a debacle and that the name change was an honest and logical step.

Please Erwin do not make any statements that people are going to count on. It hurts too many people if you change your mind.

I understand and respect that, truly, but can you help us reconcile that desire with the fact that while he was polling about name changes, stating that he would abide by the decision of the members voting, that he was bidding on the new domain name? I've not seen any post by him (or anyone) even attempting to reconcile that. Why would he be bidding on this domain, for $7000, no less, if he hadn't already decided to do it? Why post a poll on it, again, if he hadn't already decided to do it?

I want to believe in Erwin, I REALLY DO, and that he's doing what he's being led by God to do, but it's hard, for me, to put trust in someone who would do that, without even offering to explain it.

The current link leads one to believe that without Jesus there is no life, only death. It would also lead a person to believe that sin exists, that one must deal with it by turning from it through Christ as Lord. It would cause a person to think that there is only one way, one truth, one way to life. It's narrow indeed.

Jesus himself said it would be easier for most men to pass through the eye of a needle than enter the kingdom of heaven, and that certainly is true - especially considering the world's view of Christ today.

what it takes to wear the christian cross on cf has already been replaced.

look in your ucp personal profile...

Christian, Denomination Or Other Faith Icon
A Christian is defined by Rule 1.3 (click here). If Rule 6 does not apply to you, please choose Other-Church. You can choose to hide this from other members below. You cannot change this later.

The 'click here' link does not work for my copied link.

But if you go into your profile the link does work, and here is where it takes you….

http://foru.ms/faq.php?faq=rule_1#faq_rule_1_3

our definition of being a christian is to follow the rules of foru.ms our wiki has replaced the biblical definition of christianity.
